Good Wine Stores in Sunset Park
Hi Folks,
I am looking for good quality wine and spirit stores in Sunset Park circa: 25-50th 3rd avenue to 6th avenue. I have been combing the area as much as I can in the cold during my days off but with no luck.
I like Reislings,
Chablis
Sauvignon blanc
There was a big East Coast Beer distributor on 3rd avenue and like 36 street, but its all beer.
I am not much of a beer or hard liquor person although I like vodka and grapefruit juice.
any tips?
Thanks

for local neighborhood shops where you can chat with knowledgeable staff, i've got nothin' for ya. that may be something you need to hit South Slope for, since we've got several wine shops on 7th Ave in the teens.
BUT for stocking up for parties, the store next to Costco can't be beat. good prices and bar-sized bottles. for wines i've noticed that they tend to run a few bucks below the price you'll find elsewhere. personally i love the massive discounts on fine spirits. it's the same warehouse style as Costco, so completely lacking in personality. -

Yep, gotta go North to find anything decent:

Park Slope Cellars: 7th Ave/16th St.
(Name??) Wine Shop: on 5th Ave/18th St. (next to Eagle Provisions, across from Vin Rougue...same owners)
Bay River (OK wine selection, decent prices) 5th Ave btwn 15th/14th Sts
Big Nose, Full Body: 7th Ave/12th St.
And for the long haul, car needed, Big J's Liquors, 13th St. and Ft. Hamilton Pkwy...in the SAME complex as PathMark, next to the Lowes. HUGE selection, cheap as hell prices, especially liquor...yummy. Hicccc-up

It's no great shakes, but Sergio's (48th and 5th) is good in a pinch (or for some punch, if we're on the topic)

Adam's Wines and Liquors on 17th and 5th... the owner (who is not the same owner as Vin Rouge, though they help each other out a lot) is very passionate about wine, and though the place may look like a regular liquor store from the outside, it's really a wine shop first and foremost. They have a unique and well-thought-out selection of midpriced wines. Hard to find anything below $11 or above $40, though.
Still, I'll go up to Slope Cellars if I want an enlightened recommendation for something French in the $20 range... -

I would recommend Adam's to anyone. They are extremely kind, knowledgable, passionate, and stand behind their stock 100%. -
Adam and his wife are amazing. Don't go if you're in a hurry because he'll make you try three different kinds of vodka and tell you his life story.
Very nice people, though, and knowledgable. -

Hey I would love to share drinks of good quality FREE vodka, even if I did have to hear someone's life story!
Very nice people, though, and knowledgable.

Thank you Jane. I hadn't thought to look around there but I will this weekend. Thanks. I don't care about "personality" so much as I care about wine selection. If its a warehouse, so be it. Thanks so much for the heads up.
