mugging on st. Marksbetween Franklin and Bedford
last night (1/24) while rescuing a cat with a bad neck wound, a man yelled out. We asked if he was alright. he replied that he was okay but just got mugged. The perp was heading west toward Franklin when we gave chase. Called 911, friend chased and called. Within minutes police cars, unmarked vans were there!! Perp was amazed that he was still being chased as he was apprehended on Franklin 4 blocks south.
Some guy on the street said how "f***ed" it was that the guy got caught.
I was exuberant that our involvement helped get this piece of crap off the street even for a little while.
The guy who got mugged found his phone and ipod dumped near the mugging site. I hope he presses charges.
Score one for the good guys. Thank God for all the police in our neighborhood right now. All it takes for evil to happen is for good people to do nothing. Get involved.

With the help of those that chased this piece of crap, the eyewitness that came to ID the perp, and the impact cops who cut him off at the pass, we have one less bad guy off the street (for a day or so anyway).
Glad to hear that the guy found his Ipod and phone. When I left the scene it still hadn't been found. -

Excellent! I saw uniforms on foot yesterday evening at about 6 on New York Avenue, which is one block east of the assigned zone. Are they branching out? Those hours just post work seem to be the high target times. How's the cat?
-
I don't think they are branching out, but I know our block association president has been asking that they perform "verticals" (basically it means they walk through the blocks and not just up and down the avenues. As a result you may see them coming down the blocks and then up and down NYA to go to the next street.

That's not at all what a vertical is. A vertical patrol is when an officer takes the elevator to the top floor of the building and then, starting at the roof, takes the stairs down and stops on every floor. If all is good on that floor, he continues on. In the event of no elevator, he walks it in both directions. Verticals are designed to patrol housing projects but it's not exclusive to housing. Verticals are always performed by multiple officers for safety reasons. -
The cat escaped the carrier the next day and is freaked by my voice. I just spotted him in the back yard between nOSTRAND/bedford/rogers/st marks. and I'll have to put a trap out for him. Thanks for asking

What does he look like? I'll keep an eye out for him. I feed some of the strays behind my building and on Bergen between Classon and Franklin. -
Nice work, folks! =D>
