EXCELSIOR!!

  • man, i think if i was a MN sports fan, i'd just go ahead and kill myself. First KG, and now this? And the twins got back basically nothing! None of the pitchers they got are "can't miss" types. Terrible trade by the Twins. It's like MN clubs want the sports fans to hate them.

good day to be a mets fan though.
  • yea, omar totally played smith. he really screwed the pooch on this one.
  • Hell, with the Mets' luck the prospects will all turn out to be Hall of Famers.

true. and Johan won't be able to prosper under the NY media and he'll turn into a shell of himself.
  • eh, johan's ERA at yankee stadium is something like 2.17. i think he'll do fine here. and his last game at shea was a 93 pitch CG shutout.

but yea, i'm irrationally worried that something will go wrong.
  • As a MN native...

The Wolves should have traded KG a long time ago.

Losing Santana hurts, but the Twinkies have typically done well with trades long-term; they're one of the best clubs when it comes to cultivating/developing talent.
  • that may be so, but MN still got fleeced in this trade. the diamondbacks got more for dan haren.

wrong. they should've traded for players who could help him win there.
  • true. look what kg's doing in boston with PP and ray-ray. the best guy he had in MN was...wally sczerbiak?
  • Since you're not MN fans, I'll forgive you both for forgetting about 2003. (Remember? They were the #1 seed in a very tough Western Conference?) If they couldn't get the job done 2003 with Sprewell and Sam Cassell (with KG, the highest scoring trio in the NBA that year) then it just wasn't going to happen. Plain and simple, KG is the best supporting player ever in the NBA, but he's not clutch - he's not the guy that calls for the ball when the game needs to be won. As such, his contract was so burdensome that a small market team like MN couldn't sign someone else that COULD take the winning shot. As much as I fuckin' hate Kobe, he's got the will to win at the end, something that KG doesn't have.
  • KG isn't a pure scorer, but that doesn't mean he's a supporting player.

out of the sprewell - cassell - KG trio, whose absence do you think would've hurt the timberwolves more?
  • and KG has more will to win than any player in the NBA, in my opinion. that guy is an absolute animal on the court.

you don't need to "forgive me" for anything. I know about the 2003 season, I don't need to be a MN fan to know about the NBA. Thanks.

Spree and Cassell were clearly an improvement, but it wasn't enough. Really, Spree? Give me a break.
  • Nice evidence and analysis to support your opinions.
  • Awright, the hell with all this basketball talk. Santana is signed. Unless there's something we don't know, he's going to be killer in the weak-sister N.L.

Granted, Santana got paid BIG, but not absurdly when you consider what some near non-entities have managed to pull down these last couple of years - I mean starting pitching of course. If Delgado can rebound a bit from last year - an even money prop at his age - I don't see anything but bad luck beating the Mets in the N.L. this year.

True, but never underestimate the Mets' knack for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
