This happened this past Thursday-does anyone have any updates on it? I have googled and could only find stories from Thursday and PSP isn't allowing any talks about it until there is something definitive from the medical examiner.

Just curious if there is anymore info-it's horribly sad to think that someone lost their 2 year old child!

This from Only the Blog Knows Brooklyn:

CHILD DIES AT HONEYDEW DROP DAY CARE CENTER
Somehow I missed this story. This from WNBC

Police said they responded Thursday afternoon to a 911 call about a child having a seizure. Investigators said 2-year-old Carly Silberman was rushed to a hospital. She was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Authorities said they don't suspect foul play in the girl's death, but the medical examiner will determine how she died.

    Calls to
Honeydew Drop Child Care in Park Slope wasn't immediately returned Thursday evening.

  • there are many causes of seizures, most of them are genetic and happen spontaneously or they could caused by an electrolyte disturbance due to diarrhea, vomiting, or watering down the baby's formula/milk. hope it wasn't the latter
  • I guess there is nothing new on this then.

NO, absolutely not. Let's not conjecture here.

The family is in shock and grief and the autopsy has been inconclusive. Let's let it lie. It was a terrible tragedy.
  • WTGirl-no one is laying blame. Yes, it is a terrible tragedy-I just wondering if there were any new findings. Do you know the family or work at the daycare? You seemed to have a strong reaction.

    Yes.

I totally understand wanting to know more--it is a frightening and tragic event--and there are no answers. I just don't think conjecturing serves any purpose and is upsetting to read.
  • Is this our business? The only reason we would need to know why the girl died is if knowing the reason would help us save lives. If she died from a noncontagious illness, why would the public need to know?
  • I didn't mean to upset anyone, just laying down some facts for the rest of the people. As far as being contagious I forgot it could be roseola infection, which would be very bad since that is spread like a cold and happens in children that age group.

Well, there are all sorts of non-contagious causes that would be in the public interest to know about. For example, acute heavy metal poisoning can cause seizures, and if an infant got a large dose of mercury or lead I'd like to know about it.
  • For those of you who know the family, please pass on our condolences. The loss of a child is tragic at any point, but when a seemingly healthy child dies suddenly its truly a horrible thing.

Let's leave the speculation alone and allow the family to mourn their loss without making it worse for them. I'm sure if it is something that could affect the health of others, we'll hear about it.
  • yea, tell the family that brooklynian.com is really sorry for their loss

  • The autopsy showed no cause, other than what has been reported. They are going to do a toxicology report, but this will take some time, and nothing is suspected. At this point, there is no explanation for why this happened to this healthy, beautiful little girl.

Please hold the family in your hearts and prayers. They are surrounded with love and support, but of course, are still reeling.
  • An update of sorts to this tragic story: I heard today from a reliable source that Honeydew Drop Day Care has closed down, though I'm not sure why, as I haven't heard any suggestions that they were accused of wrongdoing.

It's doubly sad because this neighborhood is already underserved when it comes to day cares.

    Heartbreaking.
  • What a shame this daycare center closed. I can understand that they just economically would have never been able to overcome the bad publicity this tragedy created but it sounds like it had nothing to do with the facility. Just a sad situation all around.
