Hit and Run on Jn. of Waverly and Willoughby — Brooklynian

Hit and Run on Jn. of Waverly and Willoughby

Last nite around midnight there was a horrible crash on the junction of Washington and Willoughby. I park my car just around there so rushed out to see what happened. A white Jeep apparently jumped the stop sign going down on Waverly and rammed side-on into a silver sedan...

The jeep driver then scooted away. I immediately called 911 even as the driver of the ruined car tried to exit from the passenger side. Luckily he escaped unhurt even though the car was totalled on the driver side.

The man was on his way home from work and am sure this was the last thing he expected. The police arrived and the EMS followed. They did some investigation and took notes etc. But other than that they couldnt do much. They didnt say if they were trying to track the white jeep.

Sad as this may be as an incident, jumping stop signs is so frequent in Clinton Hill. Its a safety hazard both to drivers and pedestrians.

What can one do if they see some lunatic zoom past a red light. Noting the plate number is in most cases not possible due to the speed of the car. But even if one does note it, can you call up 911 and report ?

There has to be a solution somewhere.

  • I hate seeing that. So many idiots ignore lights and signs, just to go to another intersection and have to stop. There really should be a way to report them.
  • waverly has unfortunately become something of a speedway. i knew it was just a matter of time before some fool ran the stop sign at the corner of waverly and willoughby. unfortunately i think it's going to take someone getting seriously injured or killed before anything is done about it. damn fools.
