Well yeah, it sounds like the landlord is a notorious evil-bitch. So if you're not into that sort of thing I'd definitely suggest looking elsewhere!
-
Yeah well isn't google wonderful? You have the answer to your question before you even posted it now all you need to do is heed the obvious advice.
-
i swear there are post about them on this board LOL.
if the daughter is hot, yes its been posted
. -
thank you everyone!
i posted in another forum and got some more info: http://www.wirednewyork.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16930
yes, thank you internet, you let people share!
looks like i would potentially end up in the hell hole...
now i'll look somewhere else!
again, thank you everyone! -
That Brooklyn Papers newspaper is hell to view -- and even if I could, I would not immediately accept it's "reportage" as the truth.
What happened?
Do people think that there was an accidental fire during New York City's last blackout or that the landlord committed arson?
Was anyone harmed during this fire?
Did the renters' renter's insurance help them recover their personal belongings? -
i've been banned from http://www.wirednewyork.com/ and my post (same as above) erased - looks like someone doesn't like me looking for the truth... :? i'm beginning to hear whistling sound from x-files...
i guess when you join their forum, you just have to stay quiet :?: -

I read it before they took it off, and I was going to say that the response to you asking a simple question seemed a nutty. One person said you were perpetrating rumors or something like that??? Huh??
So you're not the only one who thought that.

ya, for one simple question I surely got a lot of negative feedback, but now i'm even more curious about what really happened (continue happenning?) at 91 Garfield Pl.
I'm getting anonymous emails from people trying to protect me from that place... people are afraid of being harassed, sued for no reason and etc... looks like real estate agents are involved in this too. -
Subject: Ita Watkins - 91 Garfield Place
You are asking if this info is true and I can verify . . . it is 100% true. 91 Garfield in Park Slope. Ita Watkins. I know some of the people who were victimized by her horrible, hellish behavior . . . I wont give details to protect the innocent. But believe me its even worse than you could imagine! They were threatened and harrassed constantly.
Tell your realtor - print this out - so that they can be held RESPONSIBLE for whatever misery this woman causes to innocent people just trying to live their lives. -
Subject: WIREDNEWYORK moderator is an imbecile!
Kristine
Found the cache of what that guy on WIRED wrote to you. So sorry!! Who knew your innocent and well-researched question would evoke a storm of snarky wackiness!!! What an ass this guy is!
Somehow this dope thought you were responsible for the "bad-mouthing" posts. I know the people behind those posts. And I know you don't know them.
I can assure you that the complaints of the individuals involved were NOT specifically about the fire (although there are further details regarding THAT which are disgusting) - they started WELL BEFORE (cause I was there) - and were incidental to - the fire. They included threats and almost daily harrassment.
I've read all his responses to you and they were not only incorrect (excusable) but they were totally out of line and insulted you personally. That would be bad in and of itself, but this dope is . . . . wait for it . . . a moderator of WIREDNEWYORK ! Apparently to be a moderator at wired you shouldn't be helpful . . . you should be a snarky little scold towards people with a legitimate and well placed concern!
Unbelievable that this guy, who replied in a very heated and hot-headed way to you post, is a MODERATOR for that site!!! Anyway, for entertainment purposes only, I'm reprinting his little hissy-fit so other people can see what an out and out JERK this guy is . . .18 wrote: I'm going to keep this thread open a littles longer to see if anyone wants to comment. I the end, it is getting shutdown and locked up. This fits the bill for rumor mongering and you, Kristine, had be move on from Gafield Place. It is a neighborly block with a block party every year and we all have fun strolling all the stoop sales on our street.
Yeah! Because we see how neighborly and nice people on Garfield Place are!!! It's nice that the people of Canarsie and Bay Ridge now know what the moderators of WIREDNEWYORK think of them! OUCH!
You might be better in Bay Ridge or Canarsie.
GOOD LUCK.[/size]
Bet yall can't WAIT to have neighbors like this!
(Actually I know some very nice people who live on Garfield myself, but this guy obvioulsy is just some bitchy little dope on a power trip. )
Needless to say . . . you made the right decision. P S - might have a pic of the landlord - hee hee - if my friend will send it. -
Yeah, I read his posts and he seems like a real jerk. He's probably the one who banned kristina!
-
Subject: Yes and . ..
. . . according to my friends this guy actually wrote WORSE things privately to them (because they somehow found out about this situation w/ Kristine and wrote to the moderator about it). He called her a SKANK! I'm of a mind to go kick his ass at this point, although violence of course solves nothing.
They have the emails on their home computer cause they too were banned from WIREDNEWYORK (as I am sure i will be soon). So I havent seen yet. There was absolutely no rumor mongering here, all of what happened was ABSOULTELY 100% true. But my friends are so paranoid that they don't want more details made public, although the snoopy butt-insky moderator has probably figured out who they are.
If you only knew, dear readers . . .
Believe me, the realtors in Park Slope all know about this woman too, yet they continue to rent her apartments out cause y'know. . . . commissions in Park Slope are much better than in Canarsie or Bay Ridge . . . . HA! She leaves her mentally slow 15 y. o. daughter alone at home unsupervised cause she works at night as a nurse (yikes!). Thus the apartment gets burned down. Yeah . . . rock on! Couldn't possibly happen again.
But, hey, who cares? You can get RENTERS INSURANCE!! YEAH! That makes me feel so safe. Meanwhile they almost DIED! A cat DIED! Their computers and much of their work and personal effects were DESTROYED! They had to stay WITH ME in my apartment. But hey Kristine, insurance will solve ALL YOUR PROBLEMS!
And yes, sure, Garfield is a good location to live. If it's not 91 Garfield!
I haven't seen what this person (and I use that term with hesitation) wrote to my friend yet but I am assured it was bad - much worse than what he threw at Kristine. Hard to believe a MODERATOR who knows DICK about what these people went through, even before the fire, claims to be NEIGHBORLY, then totally TRASHES them after all they suffered at the hands of a nightmare landlord. And anyone who has had a nightmare landlord (I have . .. but not THIS bad) knows exactly what it's like.
Anyway, all this will simply serve to spread the word about Ita - and (! Garfield - BE WARNED ALL! -
Subject: Bad landlords?
The best way to get a hold on a landlord's reputation is to ask for references of former tenants. If a landlord won't give you the contact info, then its probably time to walk away.
Trusting the internet for the "truth" is a risky proposition.
Furthermore, a person leaving a candle to burn, which then burns a house down destroying other peoples' property, sounds in tort ...

Subject: The aftermath . . .
I just feel sorry cause someone is gonna rent that apartment eventually, and when they do . . . I hope they find this thread and go after the realtor and get out of their lease, is all I'm sayin'. God help them. -
I disagree about expecting to receive references from the landlord for former tenants. I have rented the apartment in my brownstone about six or seven times over 26 years (most of our tenants have stayed about 4 years). All of our relationships, with one exception, were beyond cordial... we became friends. The exception was merely cordial and professional.
And yet I have forwarding information for only the tenants who left immediately before my current tenants came in, and it's been a few years now, so I'm not sure even that address is still good.
I'd be happy to give previous tenant references if I knew where to find them, but I don't.
They'd probably give us glowing references if we could find them, but we can't.
So we're limited to a reference from the tenants currently in the building.
I cannot imagine we're the only landlords with this problem. -
I totally get your point. People move around a lot so even if one of those tenants gave you their new address afew years back they are not likely to be there now.
There is an opposite side of the coin from the Landlords point of view. If someone who wants to rent gives you their "current" landlord and you call them it is likely that if the person is NOT a great tenant the Landlord will give them a good reference if they are loking to get them out of their own building. -
after talking to more people, i'm beginning to understand that practice of taking tenants in and harassing them out of building is not uncommon and in many cases is a profitable business for landlords and real estate agents, perhaps there is much more going on and what I've discovered in Park Slope is just a little part of a giant mountain...

A Conspiracy is Afoot!
Hahaha! Lets call in Geraldo! I don't think Ita is smart enough to make a ploy like that work. She's just a b-word. She just has total dumb-luck. Bought a crappy building back in the '70s, with her husband for next to nothing. Wasn't home when her dumbass daughter burnt it down. Nobody sued. Now she had the thing gutted and renoed on the Ins company.
It's prolly worth $1.6 mill and is a steady rent roll. Plus she has people to harrass and threaten . . . . how great is life? -
definitely

this was hardly the only building to catch fire during the blackout .
and she was not the only one who had difficulty geting home that night.
the rest ? i dunno the woman.
but clearly this is all from a reliable longstanding poster so it must be true :?
