Anybody know this little red dog? — Brooklynian

Anybody know this little red dog?

Comments

  • I hope that you find a good place for that little dog.

Last week, I found a pit bull at Atlantic and New York who was dying in the streets. He had been hit by a car and the driver did not stop, nor was there anybody there to help him.

All I could do was call the 77, they came and picked up the little guy to bring him to CACC to get euthanized, there was no other way to go, the dog was too far gone.

That really stayed with me. I love animals much more than I love people and the fact that this happened and I could not help really hurts.
  • Hello, Athenee - I'm one of the two girls who flagged down the police car.
Did you hear for certain that the pup was too far gone? I'm so sorry. :(
You did all you could, and the poor baby did not die slowly alone in the gutter.
I know that all three of us mourn him.
(The police officers were really nice and understanding, I thought.)

You should register on these boards.
There are lots of fellow animal lovers here.
If you follow Pitu's link you'll see the outpouring of support.
Plus, I think the little red-head is going to be okay! :)
  • Oh, I remember you, thanks so much for flagging down the RMP.

The dog had severe internal injuries, and you could tell by his eyes and breath that he was dying. Sadly, even if he had not been injured at all, a stray pit bull in NYC has not much hope of getting adopted given the 7 day rule of the CACC and the overcrowded shelter.

The police were really nice to him, so that's some comfort, but I am tired of people in this neighborhood to just not care enough.

I will register when i get a minute and send you an IM.

Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.
  • Any updates on the dog?

All the updating is on the original thread. I don't think the owner was found yet, which is why we still have it stickied in a couple of places.
    Please continue there . . . [quote=pitu]Please see this thread . . .
