  • I've worked at several in Manhattan, but not in Brooklyn. You might be able to find something on nycares.org
  • Not so near Fulton, but CHiPs on 4th Ave near DeGraw uses volunteers

    * Serve in the Community Kitchen. You will be the waiters and waitresses in our very welcoming facility. Our community kitchen is set up more like a cafe than a traditional soup kitchen. We can seat only 24 people at one time. This helps us create a real feeling of community. We will ask you to bring plates of food, drinks and desserts to our guests. Also, we ask your help in cleaning tables so we can seat more guests and occasionally working in the kitchen or washing dishes. The most important part of your job will be to be hospitable. We are looking for volunteers with great smiles who are willing to spend some time in conversation with our guests. You will meet some incredible people. Our kitchen and dining room can often be chaotic because of fast turnover rates. We invite anyone over 12 or over to come and serve with us. Please wear closed toe shoes, so that your toes are safe. I also suggest wearing clothes you are not sentimentally attached to, as you may get dirty.
