where can I buy womens workboots — Brooklynian

where can I buy womens workboots

I need new work shoes. I'm looking for women's steel-toe sneakers.

I can order online if I have to, but I need these shoes to be comfortable so I want to try them on.

Stores that are in Park Slope or near trains stations are ideal. Union Square, downtown Manhattan, etc. I work a lot and am limited on shopping time.

Thanks in advance!

If you order from Zappo's, you can try them on at home and if they don't fit well or you just don't like them, you can return them for a full refund and they pay return postage.

That ends up taking a while so I'm trying to avoid it. I have to get deliveries sent to my bf's office and they tend to take several days to actually get stuff up to him plus I have a torn, but healing, tendon that my current boots are killing. I'm eager to take care of this tomorrow since I have tons of on my feet time at work this week. I do like Zappos when I know what I'm looking for, though.
  • The only brand I can think of that makes them is Sketchers and they have a store on 34th street in Manhattan. Otherwise you can try David Z which has stores in Soho and one in Union Square. There is another store on Spring
Street called Rat something or Yellow Rat that might have something. Good luck.
  • It's not like it used to be, but there's still a lot of shoe stores where boots could be procured along 8th street east of Broadway.
  • You might have good luck at Frankel's, 3rd Ave. & 40th St. in Sunset Park.

Their sign says "An American Treasure Since 1890".

Steel-toe sneakers? Maybe best to call first.

I'm assuming she doesn't actually mean sneakers... :?
  • I do mean steel toe sneakers :) They are lighter weight than full on, high-top boots. That I needed boots was a last minute fact on this contract and I just got the only pair boots I could find close to my size (not a lot of options out there) and they are great but the fit sucks.

Last week, much to my delight I found out the sneaker versions exist and are okay on my site! Thanks for the suggestions..I'll do some calling and see what I can find. I don't shoe shop much so I'm clueless about this.
  • Success! I called places like the Sketchers store and all of them said their steel-toe shoes are only online. Then I called Frankels and they had exactly what I wanted.

They were really helpful and friendly there--very Mom and Pop. Plus, the shoes I wanted were on sale for $30. If you need Carhartt products, they have a decent supply, though mostly mens at the moment.

Thanks a lot of the help!

btw, when I say sneaker, they mostly look like them--light weight (for steel toe) and low cut--but not the support you need for jogging.
  • This is just an FYI for the future...

There are a ton of stores on Fulton Street downtown that sell workboots, workclothes, etc. Its the one type of item that is actually easy to procure in the Fulton Mall.
