Trash Outside School, Berkeley and 6th
kudos to the person responsible for the sign taped to the side door of the elementary school on berkeley and 6th. the sign, which directed the reader's attention to the hulking, stinking mass of trashbags and broken glass piled in front of the side door, read (and I'm paraphrasing): "if you're as disgusted by this trash as i am, call 311."
long story short, the sign is now gone, but the trash (which does indeed include shards of broken glass strewn about the sidewalk) is still there.
i understand that the school generates a lot of trash and broken equipment, and i understand that that trash needs to go somewhere. but it seems like every weekend, those of us who live in the neighborhood are forced to slalom our way through the wreckage just to get home. wouldn't be a bad idea to more closely calibrate the time when the trash is thrown out with the time when the trash is picked up -- which shouldn't be such a big deal as i know maintenance people work at the school over the weekend.
not to mention the sidewalk is profoundly in need of a power-washing.

Subject: school trash
I agree about the weekly toxic mess out there. The large shards of glass were the last straw, but they toss anything out there, including wood with nails sticking out. The school is being an irresponsible member of the larger community. Even their students enter through that side door (near the trash) at times. Is calling 311 the only way to deal with it? Letter to the pricipal?
