Brooklyn Pita
I picked up a couple of sandwiches last night from Brooklyn Pita. They were wonderful. I had a lamb kabob sandwich, which was full of tender
lamb pieces, my son had a lamb lubya sandwich, which is a ground lamb and beef kabob full of chopped fresh parsely and garlic.
Each sandwich came with a choice of salad or soup. I had the lentil soup and it was spicy and had a minty aroma. Very different that what I expected but delicious all the same. The salad bar had choices from potato salad to roasted slices of eggplant.
The pita bread was not the usual thin and dry stuff you get in most places, it was thick and tasted freshly baked.
The place looked sparkling clean at 8pm and I'm told they are open until 11. They are located on 7th Ave near 8th St.
The bad news is that it only has a few stools if you wanted to eat there, so it is primarily a take out or delivery kind of place.
I do not have any ownership or interest in this place, but I was so happy with what I had last night I wanted to share and after we were finished with dinner I wondered what took me so long to try it. Two sandwiches including two soups were under $15.00,

Yeah but their chicken sandwiches are all made with cheap cuts so they come out greasy and chewy--what happens to the white meat?
-
I ate there once, that was enough. I had higher expectations after it took so damn long for them to open up.
Mr. Falafel a few blocks down is WAY better, and there's more room to sit. Their chicken kabob and lamb are superior, as is their hummus.
But of course, no one can touch Sahara on Coney Island Ave and Ave. T!! -

Agreed on that count. I LOVE Sahara! -

Ditto!
Sahara is not that long a ride... even if you take the bus. If you never leave PS it is entertainment to see the rest of Brooklyn!
The restaurant is huge. You will never wait for a table. You don't need a reservation. If you drive ..there is valet parking and adequate on street parking as well. The food is wonderful and the service is lovely and that is an accomplishment in a place this large. Worth the trip. -

Plus, the best bialy place in Brooklyn (possibly the world), Coney Island Bagels and Bialys, is right next door. Pick up a dozen and throw them in your freezer. -
The bread, the soft buttery rice, the swordfish, the lamb....all extremely amazing and well worth the ride!

I like Sahara, but once received an undercooked (aka raw on the inside) chicken kabab. I can't get my family to go back.
Brooklyn Pita is very good. We order in frequently (last night in fact). Dark meat chicken is superior to white for that kind of grilling (better tasting in general too).
The bread is the best - it's the kind of pita bread that is more common to israeli style shwarma joints.
I also like Mr. Falafel, but don't like their bread. Bread is important.
It's good to have good choices (Brklyn Pita, Mr. Falafel, Fatoosh, Olive Vine, Pita Pan) in our god-awful neighborhood. -
I'll take nicely charred on the outside, juicy on the inside lean chunks of white meat (like at Mr. Falafel) any day over greasy, fatty thighs.
Although I do like Brooklyn Pita's hot sauce. -
I actually like the falafel at Pita Pan better than at Mr. Falafel. It took me a while to get past the fact that they use tortilla shells instead of pitas, but the superior filling at Pita Pan makes all the difference. I've found that the falafel balls there are much tastier, spicier and moister than across the street at Mr. Falafel.

Fatoosh has opened in the neighborhood now too.
