Swimming Pool Options?
I know this has been discussed before, but I wanted an updated opinion from people who swim frequently.
I have gotten so bored with gyms and their classes. I'm having a hard time finding an aerobic activity that holds my interest, so I figured swimming would be my no-brainer option since I did it all my life and would like to find a pool nearby that I can get in, swim a bunch of laps and get out of in under and hour..weekday evenings and maybe weekends. Something that doesn't break the bank would be fantastic. I know BC is the closest to me but $200 for 20 visits seems kind of crazy considering I'd be going at least 3 times a week.

Swimmer here. As far as I know, not a thing has changed on the pool scene since the last exhaustive thread, even if it's two years old . . .

perhaps you'd like to bump it, and ask for updates?
Maybe someone that still goes to Eastern Athletics can tell us how the new architecture/loss of view effect the place...
(That's a serious question btw - I go to Berk-Carroll now, but I used to love the view at EA when waiting for my lane....) -

$200/20 Visits? What B.S. You might as well put that money towards taking a class at a college with a gym and pool that gives students free gym membership. You'll get stronger and smarter. -
hey this is a good topic.
im new here (in this forum and the neighborhood), and have been thinking about the same thing as ilovecarbs. im looking for a swimming pool that is not too crowded and cheap and convenient.
where is the last thread about swimming pool? i was looking for it all the way to the last 10 pages, but maybe i should just ask here.
and where is Berk-Carroll? -
I agree its overpriced. The only reason I looked into it is because it's the closest pool to my house. With the freezing weather, the distance is a determining factor as to whether i'm going to wanna go.
The BC pool is on President between 6th and 7th. Beth Elohim on garfield only lets temple members use the pool, john jay high sch has swimming classes, which doesn't help me at all.
ahhhhh!!
Frankly, at this point I'm ready to succumb and pay the $200. All i want is a pool i can jump into, do 50 laps to work off my crazy consumption of cocktails and big desserts, and be on my way in an hour or so. Damn these options! -
Can't you swim at the Y?
-
i could, but i have heard that the Y is a terrible option for lap swimmers.
-
Ah-what about some of the indoor city pools? too far?

Most Y's do have designated hours for lap swimming; you may want to check out the nearby ones.
I'm a member of the Bed-Stuy Y and it's a good spot -- not overly busy, but lively. -
Thanks guys, I'm going to look into them and see what I can do to avoid getting royally screwed.
