sign says reopening feb. 28th i believe.

they were working on it yesterday and i peaked in...looks like they are moving fast. seems like it's going to be a little bit sleeker looking with a more open feel when you walk in.

i really, really love their food, think it's always extremely fresh and enjoy their oshima salad very much.

i hope the renovation is not a la 2nd street cafe, and they are in trouble...

i will continue to support them fervently. i think the quality is as good as blue ribbon for a fraction of the cost.

I suspect you may be thinking of Inaka, on 7th Ave at 4th Street, which is currently closed for undisclosed reasons.

Do any of the Japanese restaurants on 5th and 7th avenues stink? At most places the food seems fresh and service is usually good. Are there any reasons to eat at one Japanese restaurant or avoid another?

My wife and I are weekly regulars at Kiku on 5th Ave (near Berkley). We thought Blue Ribbon was the be all and end all of Park Slope sushi until we decided to branch out. Taro despite all of the raves was rather pedestrian and the fish was not plentiful. Kiku however has been and will continue to be by far our favorite. Amazingly generous quantities of fresh and delicious fish. Great prices (and just insanely better when compared to Blue Ribbon). Great menu with interesting variations and creations - the Angel Roll is outstanding and highly recommended. We have yet to try Oshima or that place on Flatbush near the train station. I recommend Kiku wholeheartedly!

Yes, Kiku on 5th Avenue is tasty. I like their creative and flavorful appetizers and spicy soups. Kiku offers larger portions than Blue Ribbon Sushi.
