Mother cat killed where are her kittens?? please help? — Brooklynian

Mother cat killed where are her kittens?? please help?

Sunday around 4 p.m. I picked up a dead cat from the middle of the street at the Franklin Avenue shuttle on the Prospect Ave side. Somebody recognized the cat and said she had kittens a week ago. Sure enough the cat was lactating.

The cat is a beautiful grey tabby If you know where the kittens are, or hear the kittens crying, please call my cell phone so we can rescue them.

Without food or heat these kittens will die.

  • good luck finding the kittens. i will be happy to help adopt or foster a kitten if you can find them!
  • Have you checked around the church? I know someone was feeding the cats there, maybe the church would let you look around outside? Please let me know if you find anything, I haven't been able to stop thinking about those poor babies and their mom. I successfully bottlefed a 2 week old kitten last September, he's 6 months old now and doing well. I also got a 3 week old kitten 3 weeks after I got the 1st one but he wasn't dependent on kmr. I feed the strays by me but I don't remember seeing a grey tabby. I hope they are ok.
  • i keep thinking about these kitties too. please let me know if there is any way i can help.
  • MOD NOTE:

it's not a good idea to put your email on the internet. not only can sketchy characters (like caseopele's vicious dogs, for instance) get a hold of it, but it's also available to spammers bots.

if you register, people can contact you via PM.

if you'd like me to edit your post to remove your email, let me know.
  • yes, could you remove it please? i clearly wasn't thinking straight...
  • Ok, if anyone lives on these blocks between Classon and Franklin, please talk to your supers. Ask them to keep their eyes out for these kittens. They'll probably be somewhere warm and where they wouldn't be disturbed. They may be dead already but I can hope. I spoke to the super of the building to the left of the church on Prospect, he takes care of both buildings. I explained the situation and asked him to call me if he saw them. I also offered him something for his time. It started to rain though so I had to head back (I had my dogs).

    St. Marks - South side
Prospect - North and South sides
    Park - North side

Don't worry about what to do with the kittens if they're found, I can take care of that. Just please, keep your eyes and ears open for any spots where you've seen strays congregate. I'm home all night and can be there in minutes.
  • I can make myself available to drive anyone around if they want to look. I will keep my eyes peeled on my end.
  • stacey, that's so sweet but I think they'll be difficult to find that way. I'm seriously contemplating checking out that parking lot to the right of the church. I think it's one of the only places I could get into. Of course, it would have to be later tonight.
  • ok, i registered, so PM me if there is any way i can help out. i will keep my eyes open for them!
  • I spoke with St. Marks Tsarine on Monday evening. A lady that lives in an apt between the Prospect Park Shuttle Stop and Franklin (on the side where the sub shop is) has been feeding the cat that was hit was the car for quite some time. The lady said that the cat had given birth a week before. I put signs up at all of the apts between the shuttle stop and Franklin asking people to look in their backyards that night. I have seen the grey cat before and she always comes from underneath people's stairs in the gated walkthrough between the front of the apt and the backyard. I feed the colony by the church and there aren't any kittens there and I doubt that they are in the parking lot by the church. The grey cat doesn't go there to feed so it's doubtful that she would have her babies there. I imagine that they are in someone's backyard area near the sub shop and the feeder. I really hope that someone is able to find them. I did see several people reading the signs that I posted so hopefully someone will take time to search.
  • i was woken up by cats crying in the middle of the night last night - around 5 am. i live on franklin and st. john's, so i don't know if that is too far away for the kittens to have travelled. my boyfriend went outside to see if he could find the cats, and brought some food down, but he couldn't track them down. he left the food anyways...so sad! such a cold night for those little guys to be on the street.
  • I think that is probably a little too far. You were probably hearing mating outside. It usually sounds like a cry/howl. It sounds like you may have some kittens outside in a couple of months!
  • well, someone ate the cat food...so that's good at least. i'm still worried about these kittens though :(
