Laundry-- Kingston bet. St Marks and Bergen. Big, new machines.
Dry cleaning, Kingston and Dean. Nice, good, not terribly fast.
Take out--loads on Nostrand. Kas for West Indian food on Kingston bet. St. Marks and Bergen, or further down, between Bergen and Dean more Jerk stuff. Can't remember the name, but there's always a smokin' kettle in front and the window is painted with "home of the $4 meal!" Tasty.
If you're willing to walk, bike or drive, I really recommend Chavella's on Classon between Park and Prospect--great Mexican.
Yummy Indian on Franklin, can't remember the cross streets, but it's probably bet. Park and Sterling, or there abouts. Also, Sushi Tatsu at the corner of Dean and Franklin is great, and they deliver.
Starlite lounge at the corner of Bergen and Nostrand isn't as scary as it looks. Don't know any places closer, but check the search engine. Apparently there are new bars everywhere on Franklin.
Welcome to the neighborhood! -
There's also Q on Nostrand. They don't have much of a selection but it's definitely a homey neighborhood bar. The bartender is really nice.
And there's also the Crown Cafe on Bergen and Nostrand. Food is good, though it's a bit short on atmosphere. That's because it's super tiny.
Imhotep's of course for great vegetarian.
And there's a bunch of great takeout all down Nostrand, such as Ital Shak. And this tiny hole in the wall, which name I don't remember, but they had an awesome lima bean stew.
I take my laundry to the laundromat on Nostrand between Sterling and Park Place. It's new and fairly large, so it's not cramped like a lot of laundromats in the hood. I drop my laundry off there and it's pretty cheap: 60 cents a pound. They do a good job and the guy's nice once you get to know him. (He can seem a bit abrupt at first.) -
I live on the same stretch of street. Welcome!
I've been taking my laundry to the Laundry Queen on Atlantic - mostly because it's fairly quiet (I can read) and I can park when I have more then a couple loads of laundry (which is often). They also take the vendacards so I don't need quarters.
I've got a stack of delivery menus for indian, west indian, and pizza; but I haven't stopped anyplace for actual take-out. There is also a chip shop that opened up if you walk along Bergen towards Kingston.
I haven't done any bar drinking in the area - although I have taken the Bergen St bus to Freddy's in PH then taken the Dean St bus back. It's a whole lot easier then when I use to walk there from Ft Greene. 8) -
Chip shop?! Yum--where exactly? On Bergen? Kingston? How could such a thing escape my notice!
-
On Bergen just before Kingston on the north side of the street.
I haven't been in yet - I remember it every time I circle the block for parking, but never think about it when I'm hungry.
I was hoping that since I've posted it here, I'll remember it next time I need a deep-fried snack.
Howdy, Stranger!
