To anyone concerned with neighbors who blast music or have loud parties) the police are the appropriate people to call (not 311) for noise complaints -- it's a quality of life issue that can result in fines for offenders.

Every precinct has a community relations officer as well, who also can work to help solve the problem. The more people speak up about this, the more action you'll get. Don't hesitate- call, call, call. In Prospect Heights, you would call the main number for the 77th Precinct - 718-735-0611 -and the community affairs officer, 718-735-0634. And call again if the music comes back on after a police visit -- that's an invitation to a fine.

I'm not one to begrudge the occasional Saturday-night party, but people who constantly play loud music (especially late on work days), are clearly antisocial and out of control. And as is often the case with quality of life issues, there can be larger issues (violence, drugs) under the surface of what seems to be just a nuisance.

And on my misspelling of noisemakers ... you know there was some effort awhile ago to crack down on the hours of ice-cream trucks (which I have to say don't bother me much at all, but I've never had one parked outside my apt. for a long time).

Subject: potential solution for noisemaking

it was recently recommended to me to try a type of earplug called Makk (I think). They are silicone thingies that you put in your ears and they conform to the shape of your ear canal and completely cancel out all sound. I was skeptical at first, but they REALLY work. i use them many a night to tune out the gangbangers that hang out on St. Mark's Place late at night blasting music. You can get them at the drugstore.

Ain't nothing I can do about the church I live above... 311 would never respond to a noisy church call. And they let their kids run around on the street on saturday and sunday nights, sometimes as late as midnight. Not only is there screaming galore, but there's trash all over the intersection the next morning.

The music is so loud, it makes the building shake, so earplugs don't really help that much. They have so much amp gear in there, when they have services my tv reception goes bad, and my stereo speakers get feedback.

Stupid christians.

I made a point of remembering... it's called 'The Miracle Church of Christ'.

It's a miracle I don't go down and interrupt one of their services by yanking the freaking amp plug out of the socket.
