Cafe Coffee

If you're thinking of the space at the bottom of the 5 story rowhouse on St. James and Greene, it could do well. I think from a neighborhood perspective, you'd get a lot of people stopping in. I'm not an expert, but I'd think coffee shops would do especially well if they're near a subway station (morning cup o'joe). People making their way to the C on Fulton could stop by....
I for one would welcome it. -
I agree... that'd be a great spot for a coffee shop. Is that where you're looking? Or over by the Speakeasy restaurant?

Oops - that 5 story place is on Gates and St. James, I think, not Greene, so probably not the spot you're considering...

Exactly where on Greene near Washington? The only spaces I can envision would be where the chinese take out place is located or the cleaners. So where exactly do you mean? -

I think a coffee shop would do great...but a pâtisserie would be even better. I used to love visiting Cousin John's Bakery and Cafe in Park Slope - simple, honest-to-god breads, pastries, and coffee, but also sensational cheap brunches. I think there's definately demand for a place like that in Clinton Hill. -
I live two blocks from there and I think it would be an incredible addition to the neighborhood.
As others have said, a cafe with GOOD beans/coffee and even fresh bread/baked goods would be a dream. -

you might want to try choice market on lafayette and grand. not exactly cheap, but definitely delicious. -
I'd LOVE a place to get good cofee/pastries on my way to the park in the AM. As far as the space on St James and Gates, I don't imagine it's for rent. That place has been renovating in fits and starts for over 4 years now and I haven't heard a hammer swing over there since last Summer.

One more thing: Choice market has been a godsend for this neighborhood; it's packed morning, noon and night. There's strollers parked outside all afternoon and Pratt students galore. The food is great, but procuring a snack there takes longer than a trip to the DMV.
I can't imagine that they couldn't use a little competition. If you were to offer food as good as theirs I don't see any way you could fail. Unless, of course, the service was even slower! -
I hope you go forth with your plans to open a cafe, coffee lounge or the like at this location. It would surely be supported by the residents on the Fulton side as well as those elsewhere for the mere fact that there is nowhere other than a Choices Market to get coffee and pastries or eggs on mornings other than the bodegas.Of course there is that establishment on Fulton heading towards Classon whose name escapes me at this moment , but your cafe would be in close proximity for those of us who live in between .I hope it comes to fruition. Anything is welcome at that location. Can't hurt to have another option.
