Subject: what's your favorite comfort food -- DELIVERY

anyone here who has read enough of my posts knows that i am both a foodie and a cook. normally, when i want comfort food i make it myself.

unfortunately, i had surgery yesterday and am not allowed on my feet for a few days, and since i have some serious pain meds working i'm not exactly thinking on my toes, either! needless to say, "bummer" doesn't even begin to cover it.

i live in south slope. i am looking for some yummy food to enjoy during my recuperation. hubby is here, and he can cook, but he doesn't love to cook the way i do so i can't expect miracles (sorry, sweetheart).

what are your favorite comfort foods, and do they deliver to south slope? and i BEGGING you... don't tell me that "the best so-and-so is in fort greene, too bad you can't get there, shish" cuz that will just make me really, really sad.

also, if you think some pre-made thing is dynamite at Pumpkins, or Union Market 7th Ave, Grab, etc., hubby promised to be my errand boy this weekend so i'm willing to send him out for a few blocks to pick something up.

HELP! i need some tummy-hugging, soul-coddling food, my friends!

thanks in advance...

I like their fried chicken, but I imagine the ribs are good too!
  • I'm sick as a dog, and live near you, so I'm interested in the responses as well.

I'd go for some fried dumplings from Number One Garden or a VealParm from Pinos (I know, poor little cows....)
  • I had posted in the Brooklyn Eats version of this thread, but I'll repost here (I can't wait until we get the cross-posting feature back).

I hope you have a speedy recovery! Some of my favorites:

Chicken fried steak from Two Boots.

Fried pork chops with rice and beans from Carneviento (El Gran Castillo de Jagua).

House Special Chow Fun from Hunan Delight.

Chicken Paprika wih spaetzle, Jaeger Schnitzel, or the sausage platter (main course) from Cafe Steinhoff. Steinhoff doesn't deliver to me in Prospect Heights, but you should be in their range.

Not exactly light fare, but this is the kind of thing I would go for.

Edited to fix Cafe Steinhoff link.
  • Fast & easy:
Pizza is always good. Tomato & Basil on 4th makes a garlicky grandma slice that hits the spot for me. Also City Sub on Bergen makes an excellent meatball sub and a pastrami.

Put that man of yours in the kitchen and make him cook up some homemade mac & cheese with a tasty steak or pork chop. Damn good
  • great suggestions, all!

    love jakes!

    love #1 garden's dumplings!

carny, thanks a mil and two hugs for posting with the menus!

you guys are the greatest, and that's not just the drugs talkin':lol:
  • Feel better, shish.

I think i may go for the dumplings myself

  • Sweetie.. I hope you feel beter very soon!

I had take out tonight that is one of my once a month comfort foods,,,
Take out from Kinara (Indian). I know people can argue that this is not authentic Indian but we had samosas (which were wonderful and Chicken korma and spinach with some meat and geez it all was terrific. Ordered and delivered within 25 minutes and there is enough rice for me to do something interesting with for tomorrow.
