new bar? at south slope — Brooklynian

new bar? at south slope

edited November -1 in Park Slope
I was walking down on 5th avenue passed highway toward greenwood semetary, and noticed there are couple of new looking bars popping up on the street on south slope-- there was one around 20st-22nd street looking just opened looked unlikely sleek (I am sorry I did not remember the name of the place)-- I usually do not go that direction and have never noticed, but have anybody been?

    That's Greenwood Heights.
  • ^whatever it is I'd be interested in knowing, thats a hellofalot closer to me than hiking down to places near union on 5th...
  • I think you are referring to the bar Quarter as it's near the corner of 20thst on 5th. Great laid back bar with a back patio. It has become my favorite.
  • Sounds like Quarter to me too, and it's my favorite bar. Good crowd, great drinks, perfect Jukebox.
  • Subject: sounds great

Sounds great. Thanks for info. I would love to stop by sometime soon...
  • I'll check it out too. You might want to post this question over in the GH forum though.
  • Yup. Quarter Bar is on 5th b/w 20th & 21st and is my favorite, along with all my friends in the neighborhood. You NEED to check it out if you haven't. The bartenders are super skilled and take great pride in their work.
  • I think a bar is also opening up on 6th ave adn... the lower 20's don't remember .. called Public House.
I live right near The Living Room and have yet to try that out.. has anyone here?

I run hot and cold on Living Room. I like that it has a neighborhood vibe, but every time I've gone in there, there's been some kind of event going on, so it was impossible to relax and have a conversation with friends. So, even though it's a block away from me, I hardly ever go in; I just walk the three extra blocks to Quarter.

My weird resistance to it aside, it's got a good beer selection, lots of space, and a diverse crowd, which I appreciate.
  • I went to the Living Room once and had a good time. It's got lots of comfortable sofas, a pool table, board games, and a lot of space for dancing and playing Twister. The staff was nice, bathrooms clean, etc. If I lived closer, I'd go more often.
  • I believe Public House is the new venture from Kichen Bar
  • Subject: interesting...

I went to Kitchen Bar couple days ago and it was packed, on weekday night. Good for them. I would believe they have made enough to open something more.

My friend said the bartender was not very nice--rather hostile?--- though he was superfriendly to the people he knows. I love the atmosphere of the place but the food is OK--not too bad, not that notable. It is good to have place in the neighborhood anyways, thogh, since there are not so many, yet...

About Living Room, I have been there only once but there was a band playing, as Agitpunkt said...the whole time I was there the manager or employee of the place was occuping the pool table and did not let other people use them. They were also kind of acting strange--acting very exclusive, though not particulery to me---I remember I felt a bit strange.
  • I tried the new Public House at 6th Ave & 21st last night- decent beer selection, the pizza was tasty (though not very filling- not a place to eat if you are starving). The place was packed too!

We also hopped over to Quarter last night- what a great new bar! Super cocktails, great music and atmosphere. They don't serve much food- savory meat pies (and a curry vegetable for the vegetarians) and a cheese & meat board. Great place. I'll definitely be heading back there for their cocktails.
  • Oh shoot...I was doing a South Slope bar crawl on Saturday and didn't realize Public House was open yet...

For the record my night consisted of:
Beer Table (a great cask ale)
Cafe Steinhoff (some German wheat beers ans this 100 proof rum drink- ow!)
    BBQ (always a fun place)
Quarter (great place! I'm so jealous of you South Slopers- I lived on 18th and 6th for three years and just moved to center Slope...I would have killed for this place)
    Commonwealth
    Bar Reis

    passed out
