Who do you think you are?
Just kidding...
Id really like to know who we are. This is a great place to enjoy the community but we dont really know anything about each other. How did we end up in PH? I'll start it off...
Im 22 years old. I was born and grew up in east flatbush, brooklyn, although I went to school in manhattan for most of that time. I guess the most interesting part of my early childhood was growing up in a mixed race family, which I think was very bold of my parents at the time, seeing as how I'm the youngest of 4 kids.
But anyway, I left Brooklyn to go to boston conservatory for composition, but left there after a semester to join the Marine Corps reserve. The idea was to go back to school in the fall, but that didnt work out. Long story short, after deployment I found myself a career with a mortgage company. So by day I'm a loan officer and by night still a musician. After about six months there I decided to move to the PHeights outskirts to be closer to people like me, but ever since then I've felt something is missing. Maybe I just think we need more gathering places nearby. Its hard to meet people from the neighborhood.
But anyway, let everyone know who you are!

Mr. Big Stuff.

My claim to fame is two-fold: I sat beside Ben Stiller at a FilmForum showing of Dr. Strangelove (he is very short) and my locker in high school was next to Al Reynolds of Star Jones marrying fame.

are they that different? -
wait, what kind of musician (I'm not very good at reading, so if it was in your post, dan, I apologize)? I have a dodgy history with jazz musicians and try to avoid them.

no, seriously, I have to avoid jazz musicians. it's not trolling -- it's the anti-troll. I developed a lot of bad habits with ex's and avoiding them is a good way to, well, avoid falling back into those habits. I just finished my last round of email/cell/AIM deletion, the thought of restarting makes me want to hurl.

Ah a productive Friday while I yearn for the old rotation. -

If the shoe fits...
just kiddin' man... -
Well I would but I'm moving in a month anyway...somewhat sadly, especially since I only started discovering the full extent of the greatness of my neighborhood after finding this board and taking everyone's suggestions...I wish it had happened two years ago! Oh, well, better late than never, I suppose.
Brief version, though, just so you're not left hanging, Dan: I'm 26, married, moved to Crown Heights just outside PH two years ago because we found a big place with crazy cheap rent, and fell in love with the neighborhood once we were here. Before that I lived in Manhattan for two and a half years with a roommate and paid way too much for infintesimal spaces. I'm from all over the place but from from age ten and up, Ithaca, New York. I work in publishing and I am moving to Arizona in December to freelance and hike and generally get into a different pace of life. I will miss Brooklyn, though. And the food. -
I'm a suave, windbreaker-wearing Fox 5 reporter who only occasionally gets beaned in the back by irate NYC Concilmembers wielding chunks of metal and 2x4s. In my spare time, I like to play airhockey and eat pierogies. I rarely divulge my true location due to my immense popularity among some anonymous guests.

Here's the clean version of it . . .
Im married with a MAD HOT 9 year old son. I was born and raised in Brooklyn. I was quite the hellion when I was a teen, graffiti writer, break dancer, club hopper. Never went to college, went to work full-time right out of high school for the law firm I have worked at since I was 14. I met my husband when I played softball against the girl's team for his school and then met up with him later on in life at a bar and we have been together since. We lived in Boro Park for a few years and then moved to Underhill bet. Dean and Bergen (where my husband was born and raised) and my son attends PS 9.
We really have a great bunch here. You should try to come to one of the Happy Hours - you will have a blast - just watch out for the official DH bouncers - Cupcake, Candissima and Dave - they are a REAL tough bunch :

I am extremely bored and while at work DH is the only thing that keeps me from checking out porn and getting fired.

But, I'll amend that to: "I am extremely bored while at work and DH is the only thing that keeps me from going nuts and quitting." -

I'd trade my co-workers to be by myself in a heart beat. -
I would LOVE to work in my boxers!

I'm a 24 year old guy who doesn't really have a 'job' proper. I worked for about 60 hours a week for the last two years and saved up enough money to move out of my parents house and work a lot less for a while. I work about 15 hours a week now, and entirely on sundays and mondays, tutoring for the SATs and working in a writing lab at Nassau Community College.
I'm in grad school part time at NYU, I'm very very slowly pursuing teaching at the college level, but for the time being, I'm working on writing, playing music, making terrible but hopefully funny short films, and doing standup. -
24 also. I work at a [undisclosed company] as a [undisclosed job title] somewhere in Chelsea. I would rather be at home taking a nap and occasionally writing for pay, but I like steady sums of money too much to do that for real.
I grew up mainly in East New York, with stints in ugh, Queens (Far Rockaway, South Ozone Park, Jamaica) and the same town upstate as Woodbury Commons. I went to Hunter High and spent 4 years going to college in Bumblefucktown, CT. I moved to "Crazy Lane" in January and look to be staying put for a while just to mock and occasionally threaten Daveb.
I was also the Happy Hour idea originator, so you can always blame me for your hangovers on Thursday mornings. 8) -
Other than Mr. Big Stuff and Whit & Bobby... I am 24 also and work in Chelsea doing some sort of event production or whatever they tell me to. Originally a Masshole who went to school in DC and just recently moved to CH from Park Slope, which minus the quirks of the Jewish Hospital was a fabulous decision. I need to go to happy hour next week because this week I missed the Kir Royale.
-
I'm 30. and a cat lady. and daveb's personal crazy lane protection force. I alternate between complete lush and extremely reluctant sober chick. I work way too much and sometimes have violent thoughts about my job.
