Quality Groceries on Fulton Survey
Hello neighbors,
I'm currently researching the possibility of opening a small storefront in Clinton Hill on Fulton Street next year featuring quality groceries - produce, meats, dairy, and seafood (hopefully), among other goodies. I'm doing some market research and could really use your input. Please take 3 minutes to fill out my 10 question survey and I hope to reward you with some great food soon.

Subject: Quality Grocerreis on Fulton Street
Teesygill,
What's the purpose of asking for ethnicity in your survey?? :? -
Subject: Ethnicity question
CH Diva -
I'm looking for all basic demographic information to make informed decisions about how to choose my inventory. I really want my store to be inclusive, not representing one group over the other (i.e. black vs. white). The more information I can accumulate about everyone's interests, the more I can serve the community as a whole. I'm gathering information and learning as I go.
Thanks for your question,
Tess -
I don't think she was turning the topic into a race topic but was curious to know why ethnicity was on the survey. Possible reason for her inquiring is that ethnicity does not always play a part in what type of foods people buy. A question that would reveal more about what the neighborhood wants may be "What types of meals do you cook at home?". That would be a better gauge of what types of things are in demand but are being underserved in the neighborhood, IMO.
Lastly, you can try Pathmark or Food Town, which are fairly close to Clinton Hill to get better quality. Also, from my understanding, you have the Organic Food Market on Fulton and (if it is still going on) the Farmer's Market at Fort Greene Park on the weekends. Met may be more convenient but there are other options available to you close to the neighborhood. -
Subject: A much-needed addition
The store you described would be a godsend! I love shopping at the farmer's market on Sat. mornings, and since the supermarkets in Clinton Hill offer fresh produce whose quality ranges from passable to plain gross, I buy all my fruit, vegetables, meats, and cheeses in Fort Greene. It's a schlep, to be sure, but then, so are the more passable supermarkets in Clinton Hill (more the Myrtle end of the nabe than Fulton). But I would happily shop at a place on Fulton in Clinton Hill. WELCOME!!! -
Please for the love of humanity bring fresh cuts of meat and fresh bread to our neighborhood!!!!!!

i want a decent deli counter because i don't want to cook. i'd like fresh, healthy, and with vegetarian options. some pre-cut fruit would be amazing.
i'd love to see fresh bread as well and i'd also love to have a nice cheese selection...
also, i was looking for multi-grain chips and found nothing at my local keyfoods... would love some fresh tofu and tempeh. -
I'd be beyond thrilled to have a good deli counter. Not TOO fancy, even, just something besides pale and bloated meats, shredded lettuce and stale bread. A selection of fresh produce has been something the neighborhood has been crying out for for years as is fresh bread.
It seems to me the temptation among people discussing this prospect is to do something very specific , ie all organic and locally grown. Which I applaud from a ethical/political standpoint, but there is a HUGE gap between what the Met and the local Fulton delis are offering and an expensive selection of locally grown produce. I'd be more than happy to patronize a store that sold fresh, quality foodstuffs in a hygienic environment.
In any case, I wish you the best of luck. Despite the fact that a virtual riot broke out when I said so last time, I'll say it again- that stretch of Fulton needs a serious makeover. -
Subject: I think you have your answer...
Tessygill, it's unanimous...establish a clean, aesthetically pleasing grocery shop on Fulton that sells the freshest produce (how can you get any more basic than good bread, cheeses, and meats?), and you won't be sorry. Plus, you would be contributing to the rebirth of Fulton St (which I personally refuse to write off...it's got to come good one of these days, even if it does look a bit folorn right now). Bring it on, I say!!! -
The Fulton rebirth is definitely coming. There's no question, IMO.

Part of the reason the Fulton between Franklin and Vanderbilt seems so desolate is the rerouting of the buses off of Fulton. When the bus ran on the street in both directions there were many more people walking and shopping and doing both later in the evening. Hopefully the construction will be completed in a timely manner, the bus routes will be restored and life will once again return to that strip.

I'm getting hungry just thinking of the possibilities. Looking forward to your store.
