ULTRAGEEKS UNITE! Sometime the week before Halloween
I forget how this came up, but I propose that those of us who are willing to admit to being interested get together to watch "Wizard People, Dear Reader" as a pre-Halloween festivity. This link will explain what it is. I saw this with some (non-Harry Potter freak) friends when Stay Free Brooklyn presented it last spring, and everyone agreed that it was totally hilarious (though not, I hasten to add, appropriate for children, as Neely drops the F-bomb a lot more than the original film did).
I downloaded the audio on BT, so we'd just need to find a copy of the movie. Also, I offer up our apartment as a venue, but we have a cat so if you're violently allergic you'll have to propose an alternative.

Shall I assume that the two votes for Friday are from the two people who already said they're interested? Now, now, don't be shy about being a geek. If you all show up at my apartment I'll find out who you are anyway.
-
I make no bones about geek tendencies, but I have a busy schedule and a spotty record for DH social gatherings... but I'm wondering when the Dark Side of the Moon/Wizard of Oz screening is going to happen...

I voted for Friday - let me know what to bring - alchohol, popcorn, etc. -
I voted friday, too.
I'm fine with cats!
and yes, I'll bring something, too. yay! (what should I bring?) -
Okay. Let's see who/how many people are coming before we work out what to bring. I might actually need people to bring chairs, depending...

What an awesome thing. I need to download that!

No one's said the obvious yet: Why don't we do this in the back room at Soda? There was at attempt at setting up a movie night a while back.
-
Ooh, I'd be interested if, by some chance, it swings to Monday--before my mom comes into town.
-
Hm, that could be possible, but then they'd surely want us to do it on a day other than Friday, right?
Here's the deal. The project is by no means illegal, however much Warner Bros would like us all to believe that. So the way they're strong-arming people is by saying that they'll never allow theaters that show "Wizard People" to show any WB movies ever again. That's why none of the NYC theaters, even the tiny/arty ones, could show it.
The place we saw it in the spring was a club on 5th Ave. in PS; I forget what it's called. They did it as a fundraiser for Stay Free or some similar organization.
So I think Soda could get away with it if they wanted to do it, because they're not interested in showing first-run movies anyway. The thing is, I've only heard about six yesses and implied yesses so far. That many people'll fit in my living room and I doubt Soda would want to close down the whole back room on any day of the week for six people. So let's see who else is in? -
I'd come on 10/28 (working the other nights).
-
Sarah Rose's post reminded me to bump this. Unfortunately for teamkaty, it looks like the best night is Friday 10/28. Are people still down with that? Please either reply or PM me if you're intending to come so I can get a headcount and tell you where we live.
How would 9pm be? Beer + snacks would be great, but I'd recommend against attempting any sort of chips/salsa arrangement since our cat, inexplicably, really likes salsa and will try to lick it off your chips if you're not looking.

Sounds good to me Ill be there.
-
I'm totally into it.
-
I'm there! Just tell me where and what time I should be there.
-
Wow, did you register just so you could RSVP to this? I'm kind of impressed...

do I win the ultrageek competition? It sounds like a rad night and I've been looking for neighbors to hang out with. Just don't haze me alright. -
Sounds like Friday night at a private residence is shaping up to be a plan?
-

Unless twenty people suddenly decide they want to come, yep.
BTW, the dog in Lulu's momma's userpic looks mighty familiar to me. I wonder if Lulu and her momma aren't our neighbors... -

Lulu has a lot of doppelgangers, but maybe you do know us. I'm usually yelling at her to stop looking for chicken bones. The mystery will be revealed next friday. -
