Hi-
Could someone suggest a place that has great sangria and freshly made guacamole. Looking for a place in park slope (but willing to travel a little outside the area) where we can spend the evening chatting and drinking.
Thanks

  • i adore the sangria at Coco Roco on 5th Avenue but, I don't think they have guacamole
  • As for Guacamole, Maris on 4th@Union, Piramide on 5th @ 13th, Rachels on 5th as well...

I know they serve sangria, I just haven't had it at any of them....
  • I'm a big fan of the guac @ Miracle Grill on 7th -- their regular stuff is great, plus they have a pineapple version. Yum. Don't know about their sangria, but their margaritas are good.
  • I could be wrong, but I think you can get Sangria at Los Politos. You certainly can get good guac.
  • Yeah-the sangria at Los Pollitos wasn't bad-I think Coco roco's is better-but, they were a close second
  • i'm a HUGE fan of the guac at la taqueria on 7th and berkeley.
  • I'm surprised coco roco still comes up as an option... haven't they been closed by the board of health twice in recent months? I know that they got one score of 27 and were shut down for "spoiled, adulterated, contaminated or cross-contaminated" food.
  • Twice? As far as I know-they were closed by the board of health and they eventually reopened about a month later. As far as i know-they have been open non stop since then and the re-opening was quite a few months ago.
  • Coco Roco received a 41 on July 14th and a 27 on August 30th. See BoH

Uhh, ok, so, like I said, that was last year, months ago. They were closed down for about a month, took care of the violations and have now been re-open since, I don't know october I guess..

I am with you LongTime Sloper!! What can I say... Forgive and forget. Coco Roco got caught in that period of time when restaurants were being inspected to the point of harassment. Sure some of those violations had to do with food preparation and vermin but the inspectors did things like opening the chicken roaster and then putting the thrmometer in and then citing that the temperature in the roaster was too low. Give me a break. Now it was a blessing that the Burgur Bar landed up eventually closing down after the Board of health shut them down last summer because the joint served terrible food but Coco Roco is a different story.

I eat there and order from there and enjoy the food. The service is slow but that can be a good thing if you want to share a meal with friends and hang out. It isn't the place to run in and expect you will be out in half an hour. So what.

Drab Rabbit..lay off this place!! If you don't want to eat there that is just fine but I hate to see a thread that wigles in to disparaging a restaurant because they were part of the health Department barage.
  • Yes, and I just love when some of the violations say things like "bulb out in bathroom" , give me a break!

Or.. Uncovered waste paper basket in the bathroom!

Do you have a cover on your waste paper basket in your bathroom?

    I admit... I don't.
    Violation!
  • Don't forget about Chiles & Chocolates. You can get your guac with bugs on it.
