Halloween at Soda? — Brooklynian

Halloween at Soda?

cupcake
edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
Is anyone going to Soda tonight for Halloween? German of the Month and I will need someplace to drink after we check out the parade in the Village. I've been invited to a party in Park Slope but they're pretty adamant about people dressing in costume and that is just not how the German and I roll.

  • Nah, I don't think so. I'll probably just stay home. I'll be out for Weds. as usual. This reminds me, I should start the weekly poll...
  • I'm staying in and hiding from eggs. I really hate wearing eggs.
  • Well, I suppose if no one is going to be there, we can always just hang out down town in the Village. :(

I'm contemplating my route home tonight after work with that in mind... I saw A LOT of busted eggs around our lovely Prospect & Classon.

I was reading the news and noticed somebody got shot over the eggs in the Bronx. Retarded.

The bars there are so much fun on Halloween after the parade - especially Jeckyl & Hyde and Caliente. There is another place on Broadway and I think Houston called Gonzalez y Gonzalez - there is always good music there and a nice crowd.

Yeah, I heard about that. Crazy crazy crazy.

I know and I really wanted to pick my laundry up tonight at Park and Franklin but envision myself walking home with a big ass bag of clean laundry getting pelted with eggs :x

That's exactly why I did my laundry in the early afternoon yesterday as opposed to my usual late night washes.

Ditto. So, is going to the parade to avoid egg-throwing brats before their bedtimes a good plan or a bad one? :?

Uh, judging by the two year olds I've seen out at one in the morning in this neighborhood, I don't think a late hour is any guarantee of safety. In fact, the later it gets, the more concerned I'd be.

Big bowl of popcorn and Seven Doors of Death for me, thanks.

Yeah true, forgot about that. It's going to be dark when I get home regardless. I have never been egged before (or especially concerned about it I think), so it's lame that I'm anxious about the possibility today.
  • I'm hoping that getting home before 9 and sticking to E. Parkway/Washington on my walk home will minimize the bullshit.

It's not lame. I was never concerned about it until it happened to me for the first time last year. Now I'm concerned. It ruined our evening. Stupid punks :x

It actually starts around 3ish (when schools let out).

    Where's the pointing-at-you-and-laughing emoticon?!

I was going to work late, but now I'm thinking- who's going to be at home answering their phone tonight?

Damn at least you have the option. I'm going to be here till 8 tonight.

The slavedrivers!!! (Wonderful business, no?! ) You do mostly (exclusively?) outbound calling? A question for your sales manager- who is going to be answering phones tonight? I'm all for pounding the phones, but I'm also all about being efficient with my time. For your sake, I hope I'm wrong, but I spend too much time in the office to beat my head against the wall.

Dude I couldn't agree with you more! Unfortunately its only now that we've gotten tremendous (negative) media attention that we've started to cut back our hours. 8pm seems like a blessing. At my old branch I was working till 9:15 then driving here from long island.
About the calls, I have a decent stream of referrals coming in but I don't think we'll ever get away from outbound calling. Everyone else is doing it so we have to as well.

Eventually the 2 1/2 hours commute will get old and I'll transfer to the brooklyn branch.

    cripes!!
  • I have a 35 minute commute, and it's getting old...

Happy hunting- I'm going (egg dodging) home...
  • I got home unscathed, running into Medusa and family on the way. But I saw a bus drive by (75 heading south) that had evidently gotten nailed pretty badly.

Maybe the punks didn't read the news about the shooting-after-car-egging in the Bronx. Or maybe they figure that city bus drivers aren't packing.

Screw the Village parade. Just walk over to 7th Avenue in Park Slope and watch the Brooklyn Halloween parade. Tons of kids and others dressed up and walking around. Then stroll back to Prospect Heights and get drunk.

Th Slope Halloween parade is more "small townish" than the Village parade, but it's still a cool neighborhood thing.

The guy who got shot was actually the eggee, by the eggers.

Yes. Sorry for my misunderstanding. It seems that in the Bronx, armaments escalate rapidly.
