Security Cameras: Tips Needed
We are a 123 unit building in Crown Heights. We're interested in equipping the bldg with cameras -- but the quote from management is 40 thousand dollars!!!! We can't figure out why so much! Any input, from how many cameras and where to the names of some reliable companies would be GREATLY appreciated.

The price all depends on what you what and/or need
For example:
number of cameras, vandal resistance-ness, exposed wiring vs concealed wiring, color or black and white, zoom capable, recording or not recording, quality of image, camera in elevator or not
Plus many management firms mark-up the price a contractor gives.
I lost a big camera job once using high quality stuff. The co-op board gave the job to someone cheaper who used cheaper equipment and six months after the installation was complete, the board was unsatisfied with the quality and paid the SAME contractor more mony to install what I originally proposed: the end result is it cost them more than my original price.
Howdy, Stranger!
