2 tortie sisters need a home
Well, I find myself in a familiar position but it was kind of an emergency situation. I'm currently fostering 2 tortoiseshell sisters named Sox and Gemini. They're 6 years old, completely vetted and spayed. They are very funny girls, both talkative although Sox is the most vocal. They both have little ears, small paws, and short skinny tails. I don't have any pictures of them yet since my camera broke but here are pictures of 2 similar looking cats.

Gemini looks like this cat

I'm fostering them for Kensington Kitties, I met Jenny (one of the rescuers) last summer when they set up across the street from work. A woman she knows found out that her neighbor dumped the girls at the pound when the woman moved. She'd had the cats since they were kittens but decided to get rid of them when they moved to a house. Jenny's friend went to the pound and got them but she's an older woman with 2 cats of her own so she couldn't keep them. Jenny didn't have any room for them and no foster home so they were being kept in a cage. She called me and asked if I could foster them and I couldn't say no.
Hopefully, I can get access to a camera soon so I can take some pictures of them. The poor girls were pretty traumatized when I got them, leaving the only home they've ever known, then dumped and seperated at the pound. They're hanging out in my bathroom but are exploring a bit. I'm giving them medicine right now since they have colds but they should be feeling better pretty soon. If anyone knows of someone willing to adopt these sweet girls, please let me know. Thanks!
P.S. I hope it's okay that I took in fosters for another rescue. It wasn't planned and the girls really needed somewhere to stay.

I have pics!
This is Sox

Gemini is a bit more camera shy
I don't think they're bonded like Alice and Trixie were so if necessary they could probably be adopted separately. They should go to a home with another pet though. Sox is totally cool with the kittens, my cats, and the dogs. She's also the more outgoing and daring one. Gemini is ok with the kittens and my cats but not too crazy about the dogs. She's more playful than Sox and likes to play with the cat dancer. (Or what's left of it, the kittens have almost destroyed it.) They are really sweet and funny girls. -
so cute!
now, how 'bout some pics of the kitties? -
No camera yet but I'm saving my pennies! -
And I just realized that makes no sense if you don't know that someone came over to take the pics! One of the lovely ladies from Kensington Kitties came over the other night to take pictures of the girls. And, of course I forgot to ask her to take pics of the kittens!

Yikes, sorry! The girls are settling in nicely and are turning out to be very funny kitties. Gemini chases her tail in the tub and stretches out so I can rub her belly. She's really good with the kittens and gets along fine with my cats. She's even getting used to the dogs so she could probably go to a home with a dog. Sox is the more adventurous one, I woke up one morning to see her sitting on my tv staring at me. She likes to make muffins on her blanket and is still quite chatty. She also gets along with everyone, even the dogs.
I still think they could be adopted separately, they aren't bonded like Alice and Trixie were. But they should go to a home with another pet, I think they would be too lonely by themselves. They use the scratchers I have, don't scratch on the furniture, they eat pretty much anything but I think they like fishy canned food the best. They are really sweet girls, pretty playful for 6 year old cats but very affectionate as well. -

I completely fail at doing updates. It may be because I rarely know what the date is and I'm terrible at gauging how much time has passed.
Sox and Gemini are still available and still totally adorable. Sox has settled in very nicely, exploring the whole apartment and discovering new places to sleep. Gemini is a funny little girl with her small head and feet and fluffy butt fur. I'm amazed at how well they are doing now. Gemini was in the room for difficult cats at the shelter and they were total terrors at Jenny's house before I got them. She wasn't sure they would be able to be adopted because of how upset they were. It makes me feel so good to see them adjusting to my crazy house. -
Will wonders never cease, a couple is coming over to meet the girls Thursday evening. They were specifically looking for a pair of older cats! I'm keeping my fingers crossed, wish us luck!
-
Yay! My fingers are crossed :-)
-
Yay! I will think of the kitty's constantly Thurs. night. Hope it helps. I always love to hear when a person wants to adopt an adult animal. It says something about them as a great person--maybe a little like Caseo taking in all the needy animals who come her way!? Fingers and toes crossed...

Thanks guys!

this is at least the second or 3rd time ive noticed you do this kinda thing.
very kind of you.
i obviously know zilch about cats as
i actually thought you had a couple tortoises.
were they tortoises (torti ?) i might have taken em,
as i kinda miss the ones we used to have bonking about in their tank.
best of luck. -

I'm so grateful to be able to help a few animals now. I always thought I wouldn't be able to foster because I thought I would get too attached. The 2 cats I rescued a year and a half ago showed me that I could do it. Somehow I knew those cats were meant to be with someone else and they found wonderful homes. I realized that my new apartment had a great setup for fostering and I'm up to my 7th and 8th fosters now. It's so amazing to see the cats personalities emerge after having no home or being dumped at a shelter. I see myself as a bridge from their old life to their forever home.

Have you seen the turtle at the Community Bookstore named Speedy? He's hilarious and has no fear of dogs or people. I was there one night after they closed and let him roam around. He came right up to my foot and looked up at me with his head cocked to the side. I love that he spent the summer in the pond in the backyard and just decided one day he wanted to come in. Catherine said a customer came up to her and asked if she knew there was a turtle walking around the store! -

no, i hadnt noticed that . 8)

Guess what? Sox and Gemini have a new home! The couple that came over today to meet them really liked them and the girls seemed to like them too. I'm bringing them over on Saturday and it will be official. Home visit and adoption stuff all in one shot. There's no official adoption fee since they came from the shelter so Kensington Kitties left it up to me. I set the fee at $50 for both girls together, does that seem reasonable? The fee is going to go to me to help cover supplies over the last 3 months but I wasn't sure what would be fair. I'm just so happy that they're going together to a wonderful home with awesome people.
I'm so excited! You guys rock for being so great and supportive, thank you so much! -
Yeah Caseo! I've been sending good thoughts your way all day
So glad to hear it went so well.
Just my opinion, but a $50 adoption fee for two great cats seems like nothing. I wouldn't hesitate to pay that fee and I'm sure that the new family will feel the same...Besides its nothing compared to the vet bills that will inevitably arise once these great people provide the cats a lifelong home. Don't give it another thought.
Great work..yet again! -
BTW just keep that little donation can up at the register when you work and some of us unidentified posters will continue to support your cause. I know that I will at the very least

You sneak, I sure hope I was nice to you!
-
Hehehe Caseo
Don't worry, we've had a laugh (or twenty) at your boss's expense. One that comes to mind is you taking phone messages while running the register (with me, the customer, hehe) because 'the man' doesn't want to talk. I always make sure to make a joke to keep the moments light!
Maybe I'll reveal myself one of these days...maybe
-
You totally should reveal yourself! Especially since you're one of my favorite posters here.

It was probably my manager who didn't want to talk to anyone on the phone. And they say women are moody!
I wish I had a camera right now, Mr. Mumps is laying on my lap looking so adorable. He barely fits on his blankie, ooh he has his paw in my sweater too! -
Hehehe.
The time I'm thinking of was definitely your (male) manager. Just the way men are, I think. You could just play "Take this job and shove it," repeatedly. I digress though.
Great job with the kitties. I love these stories, especially since the corner bodega kitty I was trying to help just recently got hit by a car.
You do inspire me though. I just want to make sure you know that.
BTW is the community bookstore going to take in any more kitties? What about the baby's? Sorry, in advance if i am being too nosey.
Great work and please keep us up to date on the babes new home. -
Yay for the torties! Awesome.
-
Oh no, what happened with the kitty? The store I got Mumps from has had terrible luck with cats, mostly because they refuse to keep them in the store. They said they aren't getting anymore cats and I really hope they don't.
The bookstore probably won't take in any more cats now that Princess is back with her owner. Catherine realized that it was hard for some customers to be in the store because of allergies. I guess more people are allergic to cats than dogs. Mumps and Grumps have found a home, my home! I couldn't bring them to the bookstore over the holidays since they were running out the door. And I finally accepted that I couldn't give them up. Raising them from such a young age, carrying Mumps in my cleavage for 2 weeks and wiping their tushies pretty much means they're my babies. I absolutely adore them and am amazed at how they're growing. Plus, Mumps is totally convinced that I am His Mom. He woke me up this morning laying on my neck and licking my lips and nose.
I can't wait to see how Sox and Gemini will be after being the only pets in their new home. My place is a proving ground of sorts, if they can live here then they can live anywhere! -
Caseo--You hit the nail on the head. I had been constantly trying to tell everyone at the bodega that they shouldn't let the cat outside (anywhere really, but especially on Fifth Ave where they are located). No one would listen. It was such a friendly cat too. I even threatened to steal it...they didn't like that much.
Poor baby did end up getting hit by a car. Makes me wish I had taken him
Worse yet is that they already have a new and very tiny kitten :x :x . I'm watching closely. If I start seeing this baby outside I'll be forced to do something. Exactly what I don't know.
I hate when innocent animals suffer because of ignorant people.
On a happier note, I figured those baby's were staying with you! Just wanted to hear you confirm it

Soooo, how did it go? Are the girls officially in their new home? Update please!?
-
Sorry for taking so long to reply, I've got some major personal crap going on right now. With that and work being a bit crazy for me (I'm now the cashier/email/inventory for the website wench) I've been a bit lazy. I'm going to call tomorrow to see how the girls are doing. My new foster kitty is freaking adorable, I call him squeaker. 5-6 month old grey kitten that absolutely adores other cats but still isn't sure about people. Gotta take the dogs out and feed the strays. Smooches!
Howdy, Stranger!
