Subway stops, neighborhoods hidden gems
Hey there...
I just moved to Park Slope and am not familiar with Brooklyn or the neighborhoods at all. I'm on 2nd St and 7th Ave and was wondering which stops around are the safest to travel to and from at night. Also, any little secrets you can tell me about the neighborhood are greatly appreciated. I've been exploring during the day and am in love, love, love so far but would like to find regular stomping grounds or maybe which restaurants are the best, shops to avoid, etc.
Thanks in advance!

kblade, your best bet is to just do a search of the boards and read some of the old PS threads to see.
Here are some to start you off:
Favorite restaurants http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=38338&sid=301f44441599f31e22ec97910548f645
Favorite bars http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5430
Park Slope Food Coop (there are actually hundreds of these threads, but I picked this one because it has links to a bunch of others) http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=37307
Park Slope Kids & the parents who love them http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=340494&sid=1d8bf33a2bfd235734ea0cfe94dd406c
Gyms http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=38408&highlight=&sid=5c95fdb29ede5e27043b249f82ff1045
Spas http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=32292&view=next&sid=f5705db66dc0a7cd84f22ec188f480a2
Hope those help...
P.S. Welcome to the boards!!

kblade, I hope you enjoy PS. It's a great place. This above link references some of the awful negativity that goes on in this neighborhood. A class war basically. You'll also find threads on credit card scams, dog shit piles, escalating crime and all sorts of other crap, but hopefully you'll be able to focus on the positive in this neighborhood and not be influenced by the bad.

kblade, regarding your query re safety, Park Slope is generally very safe. You will occasionally hear about a purse snatching on a residential street at night - some of the blocks can be rather dark. There have also been a few incidents on Fifth Avenue late at night on weekends (ie, at 2 in the morning). But generally, you can walk around the neighborhood and not worry, and certainly Park Slope is very safe during the day.

+2 for Grab and Slope Cellars.
And, another shout out for Applewood as the best restaurant in the 'hood.
Ladybird bakery
Cafe Steinhof
Uncle Moes for delivery
Mr. Wonton as best Chinese
Oshima for best sushi
Sweet Charity for gifts
Pizza Plus for the nicest lady who works there
Joes for the best pizza -

ive always wondered about little d brunch- can you elaborate? is it prix fixe? Whats the price range, if not? the boy and I splurge there for late dinner after work periodically... -
Carmen, Little D's brunch is really tasty and really reasonably priced-- between $8-12 for a nice-sized meal. The baked eggs with Hen of the Woods mushrooms and parmesan is amazing. Mmm, tasty brunch...

+1 for Quarter and Tacos Nuevo Mexico. had dinner there on friday and it was as delicious as always.

Welcome to Park Slope. Lots of good suggestions here. I love to shop at Sterling Place for all sorts of interesting items, wine glasses, furniture, gifts etc. It's on 7ave bet. 10th and 11th street.
I also love The Park Florist @158 7th ave. Besides gorgeous flowers/arrangements they have beautiful things for the garden, vases, little fountains. It's just a beautiful store.
The Grand Army Plaza for their farmers Market every Saturday. Then take a walk in beautiful Prospect Park.

A really interesting beer selection that pretty much changes daily. The beer menu describes each beer in colorful terms, so you can explore things that sound interesting. The owners are so friendly and helpful that you'll feel like you're having a drink at Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood Bar. (I mean that in a good way.) I'm not a late night bar person, so the fact that they open at 5 every day is a plus for me too. The only downside is that it's not the bargain leader, but you can't have it all.

Subject: thanks!!
You guys are awesome! Thanks so much. I've been getting up early for my run and getting to know the neighborhood a bit and fall more in love every day. This has helped me more than you know...thanks again, neighbors:)
