  • What's the name of the place?
  • Ummm....5th Ave Pizzeria....
  • could be wrong, but i think it's been closed for over a month now.
  • Shit. I liked those guys back in the day.
  • They had good grinders.

    They were open at weird hours tho and always seemed to be closed when I wanted pizza. I always ended up at Roma or Pizzatown.
  • Yes it's been shuttered for a while now, I think at least a month or so.
  • Really? Hmm. I used to live around the corner and always ordered/went there. Good pizza, the guys were cool. Wonder if it was a rent issue.

    Handy chart in case you find yourself in a strange land.

  • Subject: Soda v. Pop

    Back when I was younger -- during the LBJ administration, when I vacationed in New Hampshire, carbonated beverages were neither soda nor pop, they were "tonic." Even the vending machines referred to them that way.
  • hahaha

    Grinders is what ive always called those sandwiches. Is it a Boston thing? When I lived in the south everyone called them Heroes so I dont really look at that as a NYC thing.

    who calls them Hoggies?
  • sub or hero is acceptable as far as I'm concerned, grinder is not
  • hero=New York (or "New York style"/New York wanabe in other locations)
    hoagie=Philly/south Jersey
    torpedo=San Diego
    grinder=New England/northern California
    po boy= New Orleans
    Italian sandwich=Maine
    sub/submarine=most other places

    pop=bumfuck (cue "Deliverance" banjo)
    coke (for sodas other than coca cola)=retarded

    "tennis shoes" (to mean every type of sneaker)=retarded
  • never ever heard the term "grinders." thank gawd i finally inferred from the replies what food you're referring to.

    finer words have never been said.
  • po'boy
  • People who say "tennis shoes" probably also call jeans "dungarees." It's just too horrible to contemplate.
  • Tissues are not Kleenex?

    Copies are not Xeroxes?

  • Dude, I'm just sitting here in my tennies drinking a pop and eating a grinder, so WTF anyway.

    I am so filled with loathing right now. :x

    Well, that is my fantasy world anyway. Reality is more like chafing clothes at an uncomfortable desk in Hackensack, NJ. So my fantasies are kind of mundane. Except for the tennies. Gotta go exotic on those bad boys.
  • I think if you call a sandwich a "wedge" you are from Yonkers.

    A Rolodex is not a Rolodex? What the hell else would you call it?
