Rockin' South Slope til the stroller wheels come off!!!!
Subject: Rockin' South Slope til the stroller wheels come off!!!!
I don't know if people check here for happenings in the hood, but there is a dance party going down on Saturday night, 3/29/08 at the Living Room Lounge at 245 23rd St x 5th Ave. It's the first time we are throwing it at this venue, but it's going to be quite the blow out.All are invited, it's free. The format is basically anything you can shake your ass to. soul/funk/disco/house/hiphop/reggae/dancehall/indie. You get the idea. Djs are myself, Rut Roh, Soul Korea and special guest the Honorable DJ Caps of Caps and Jones fame.
Hope to see some of you there.

thanks!

don't ya mean Windsor Terrace?
-
According to the map at http://www.smalltownbrooklyn.com/windsorterrace/windsorhome.html, and the description at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windsor_Terrace,_Brooklyn, Windsor Terrace does not extend down to 5th (or even 6th)Avenue.

Subject: South Slope
That is most definitely South Slope. Windsor Terrace is further East. -
23rd & 5th is definitely Park Slope or south slope.
-
Wouldn't that actually be into Greenwood Heights?

Just having fun is all
I think offically it's the southwestern section of *Park Slope* and *Greenwood Heights*, *Brooklyn*.
In my next life I wanna be a neighborhood namer for a realtor. That's gotta be a fun job. -

A real estate site I checked had 20th as the border between South Slope and Greenwood Heights. And you'd think that if anything, they'd have a vested interest in pushing the border south. -

Does this happen every Saturday?

The idea that 23rd and 5th is part of the south slope is fallacious broker drivel. Not only is it outside the boundaries of any traditional definition of the neighborhood, it lacks the character of the neighborhood. Call it what you will, but at best it is Park Slope South or G-Heights.

Raw, not to my knowledge. I think there is a burlesque show a few Saturdays each month and there might be djs, but this is a first for this party and these djs at this venue. (usually at Savalas in Williamsburg) We're actually really excited because it's a huge, awesome space, and I feel like this hood (whatever you want to call it ) is underserved. If you come thru, definitely say what's up. Of the 3 djs, Im the tall white dude. -

wait, what? I'd thought you'd been here a little while...
Greenwood!
If it's past the expressway, no way is it still the Slope. Past 15th St is still a total stretch on this whole South Slope biz.
Sounds like a fun party tho

Tall white dude, I am planning my Missed Connection already!!

That's Greenwood Heights. Oh...you were joking. Yuk huyuk! -

Real Estate agents will keep pushing the border south until it sticks! The real border is still Prospect Expressway until it isn't.

There are too many Real Estate agents posting on this thread. -

I wasn't implying that 20th is the "real" border. I was just saying that even real estate agents aren't claiming that 23rd is Park Slope (at least not yet). -

Oh, I didn't think that you were implying that! Sorry for the misunderstanding. -
I don't give a care about the name of the neighborhood; just happy there is a happening party going on near me.
I can't do it this week, but if you keep it going I will definitely be there another time. -

Subject: Neighborhood Rapture
What's wrong with you all. As a recent home buyer in the ambiguously defined nabe of South Slope I understand how defensive/protective people are over their neighborhood and its boundaries, but Jesus, this guy just wants to throw a party and you jump all over the name he called the hood. To the original blogger, trust me, you don't want these people at your party.

Thanks so much for saying this, Mack Daddy. It was in my mind before I'd made it 1/4 down the thread.

Which part? The quote from song lyrics by The Rapture or the part that displays a decided lack of a sense of humor? -
so, how did the party turn out? did anyone from the board attend? anyone have pics?

Well, since those of us with a sense of humor were disinvited, It was probably very boring. -
I hear a bunch of people showed up and all they talked about were names and borders of neighborhoods.
Oh, but I think they called them "nabes" and perhaps abbreviated as many words as possible. -

I bet that fist fights broke out between the real estate agents and the locals!
