Phone service via the internet

We gave up our landline and are just using our mobile phones but I hate the lag time problem. (I am a freelance writer and do a lot of phone interviews.) I constantly find myself talking over the person, or the person I'm interviewing is talking over me.
I'm wondering if the phone service plans that are available on the internet also have this lag time problem.
Is an old fashioned landline my only option for avoiding this problem?
Thanks.

  • I use skype for calling regular landlines and also for talking to other skype users and have little problems
  • I have 2 Vonage lines (business and personal) for years with no problems at all. They have a $25 plan that has unlimited calling to W. Europe as well - handy for UK, Spain, France calls
  • The cable guy JUST left my house and installed cable phone. Sounds exactly the same as a land line, and since I'm a "triple play" customer now, I'm only paying $20 a month.
  • According to a report reported by CNN, you're possibly growing brain cancer.
  • Which is better, vonage or cable? I just got a WHOPPER of a phone bill today. I actually called them, which of course, was more aggravating than the bill itself.
You said you had vonage for 2 years and no problems? I want! I want!
  • I've had Vonage for more then 2 years - probably closer to 3 1/2. No problems. I recently added a business line + fax.

Personally, I think Time Warner is the Evil Empire, which is why I don't want to do one of their triple play offers - as soon as FIOS comes around, I'm ditching them like a clingy boyfriend.

One of my Vonage lines is 500 minutes for $15 (no international) and the other is unlimited + W. Europe for $25 (plus tax). All features (Caller ID, VM, call forwarding, etc. included)
  • Vonage works great. I have used it for almost two-years without problems. I have even taken it upstate without any problems. I hesitated for a while before doing it, but have never looked back since.
