Trans Fat Ban Deadline Approaching for Restaurants
Hey Gang,
Working on an article about the trans fat ban imposed by the Board of Health. As of July, 2007, trans fats products were banned in all restaurants in NYC for frying and sauteeing. As of July, 2008, the move carries over to baked goods.
I imagine that some restaurant owners are having a challenge with this ban, and hope to talk to some. I am having a problem that many restaurant owners are unwilling to admit they ever used trans fats to begin with. Quotes could be anonymous, of course.
Anyone want to get their frustrations off their chest?

So is this all baked goods SOLD in NYC or just baked in NYC? what about baked goods imported from Jersey?

The regulation does not apply to food served in the manufacturer's original, sealed packaging, such as a package of crackers or a bag of potato chips.

It doesn't matter where the food is assembled, baked, or purchased from - if its served in a NYC restaurant, it has to have .5 grams or less of trans fats per serving.
The only exception is food served in its original packaging, like crackers, as Daver pointed out.
