I need a mover soon! Any recommendations?

I need a mover to:

1) unassemble, transport and reassemble full sized platform bed (no futon)
2) move a full size mattress
3) move a dresser
4) move a small dining table and 2 chairs
5) move a bedside table
6) move 1 large piece of luggage filled with clothes
7) move 2 medium sized boxes

If you know someone reliable, professional who will not damage my furniture OR better yet, if you have used someone and had a good experience, please PM me or post a reply with their contact info and rates. I'm moving 8 blocks away withtin the slope.

Thank you!

  • Wong Movers. I don't have their number with me, but do a search on this board and they'll come up.

They'll ask you for an inventory over the phone and give you a flat rate (I managed to negotiate downward a bit). They came ( a bit early, but they offered to wait) and moved my stuff (I only moved one block over) so FAST....everything was handled well.

when you get the #, leave a message, and Vivian will call you back.

I like the flat rate because you know exactly what you're going to pay..no matter how long it takes
  • Wonderful. Perfect thread for me. I am moving about 12 blocks immediately. Any more suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
  • do they take apart and re-assemble beds? I'm awful at this stuff and I don't wanna get stuck with someone who'll leave me hanging..
  • I can't find the number for Wong movers. help?
  • Board search turned up:
    Wong Movers - 718-888-7707
  • I used these guys: http://www.nycityvan.com/ twice in the last year and they rock. I moved from North to South Slope and paid $200 for two guys with a truck - they have a minimum or $200, but it took less than the four hours allotted.
They took apart a couple things and put them back together. I would just make sure they know this is involved so they are sure to have the right tools with them- or better yet, if you have the tools handy.
  • Ditto on nycityvan movers. I just used them the other day for the second time in 4 months. AMAZING!
  • I've used Moves LLC about 7 times over the past 10 years, and they did a terrific job each and every time. www.movesllc.com
  • Movers Not Shakers
  • I've used Wong Movers for all of my moves in the city (been here over 7 years at this point) and have never had a problem. I like the flat rate and generally tip the guys $25/each - they work hard and fast. they've moved my computers and television and I haven't experienced issues with those due to their work. they also disassembled and reassembled my bed for me. good luck!

These guys are great. They were referred to us by friends who loved them. We have referred them to half a dozen other people. Everyone has been a big fan.
  • Thanks all! I just called Wong movers and they gave a me a great rate. Their inventory checklist was a great idea since I forgot to add stuff in.
I'm a moving virgin so quick question..where's the best place to get cheap moving boxes to pack clothes?
  • you always could get free boxes from any grocery story and supermarket or any store. they have to cut them up for recycling. they would love to give them away for free.
