hi,prospect heights, i looking to open a shoe store on Vanderbilt Av ,not expencive staff but very nice , for kidds and adults ,need your input thank you

I'd love an upscale, designer shoe boutique on Vanderbilt---not cheapie shoes, but upscale brands...There are plenty of "comfort shoe" stores on 7th ave...I'd like to be able to buy a pair of Jimmy Choos or stilettos in PH...or at the very least, just a fly pair of heels... -

I seriously doubt that any neighborhood in Brooklyn can support that kind of retail, let alone Vanderbilt Ave.--if it happened, surely we'd see it on 5th Ave. or Smith Street or in Sheepshead Bay first. Don't most people who want to buy designer shoes do it in Manhattan? Frankly, I have my doubts that Vanderbilt could support any kind of shoe store. It would be nice but I doubt there's enough foot traffic. (Ha ha.) -

They sell at that in the designer section of DSW I believe. Not too sure about Jimmy Choo, but they've definitely got overly expensive and cute shoes in there. -

You seriously underestimate Vanderbilt Ave. as a shopping street. When people find out you carry those brands, they come from all over to get them. A question: How often do you traverse Vanderbilt? Been there lately?

If you're going to also carry men's shoes, I think you'd do well with the type of stuff they used to carry on 8th St in Manhattan before that street got too gentrified to be lined with shoe stores.

I absolutley think there's enough liquid income in PH to support an upscale shoe store...PIECES, which sells high-end clothing, is doing just fine..In fact, they've done so well that they were able to start an outpost in Harlem. Yes, one can travel to Manhattan to buy shoes, but it would be nice to have a place like that in BK...Smith street has one upscale shoe store and there's a place on 5th ave that sells cute knock-offs. I can't believe I'm the only person here who's had to go out and needed a cute pairs of shoes quickly...and didn't want to travel to Manhattan. I'm sorry, but DSW just doesn't cut it. Then again, there's always Century 21 in Sheepshead Bay...

I traverse Vanderbilt twice daily. Do you seriously think Vanderbilt can support luxury retail? Right now we've got a lot of stores that sell practical items and mid-price clothing items that do well. The kind of people that buy Jimmy Choo probably go to Manhattan every day, where luxury items are readily available. They're not going to trek to a different neighborhood in Brooklyn to buy them, and even if they do live in PH, they're not going to buy enough luxury items to support a whole boutique of them.
Also, I think there are certain kinds of items that people buy in the neighborhood because it's convenient (e.g. big bags of pet food) and items that people buy in the neighborhood because they want to support a business (e.g. wine). I doubt shoes fit in that category because people are picky about them.
Of course, I think this conversation is somewhat silly to begin with, since it only came up in light of RBG's ongoing attempts to impress us with brand names... -

I think there's a huge difference between 'upscale' shoes and Jimmy Choos. the price point difference is gigantor. I think a shoe store, to do reasonably well in this nabe, could sell shoes in the $100-200 range, maybe some boots just under $300 at the outside edge of priceyness. Jimmy Choos are in the $500+ range -- totally different ball game. -

Why is everyone getting so upset? I just expressed an opinion. I used Jimmy Choos as an example. All I'm saying is it would be great if there was an upscale shoe store in the neighborhood. We have an Aerosole on 7th ave, a DSW shoe warehouse, Footlocker, and plenty of Birkenstock type stores around...what would be wrong with a place that sells specialty shoes? There is absolutley nothing wrong with an impulse purchases every now and then...Whether they sell Jimmy Choos, Cole Haan, Gucci, etc., it would be great to have some variety. Believe it or not, there are people in the neighborhood who'd love a store like this---just ask the women who shop at Pieces...Besides that, Brooklyn is quickly becoming an important shopping destination. And speaking of Vietnamese food, we need a Vietnamese restaurant in the hood too...I'm tired of driving all the way to 86th street for it.

amusingly, everyone I know who has purchased something there (that I know of), me included, has only bought from their bin sales. then again, I guess when I want a betsey johnson top, I go to the store in soho. cause they have a great sale rack there.
all of that aside, I think Pieces is about as expensive as a store can get in this nabe and still do business in it. -
I did actually buy one shirt (the girl said I could wear as a dress too, but :shock: ) there at retail as a birthday present for myself one year. But other than that it's been the bins for me!
And I agree, that place is about as expensive as this area can support. -
Most everything I've ever purchased from Pieces has been on sale too. I actually had to stop shopping there for about a year when I was saving to buy my apt...I admit, I may have a problem when it comes to shopping. I work so that can eat, travel, pay my bills, and shop...I love shopping...
