i just found a puppy - looks like a pitbull mix, black with brown stripes, approximately 2 months old. I found him near the church on the corner of 6th Ave and St. Johns. I rang a few doorbells nearby to see if the puppy had runaway but no one seemed to know anything. I picked him up and brought him home with me and he's in company of my own dog. If anyone has lost a puppy, please contact me at [email protected]. I unfortunately had to leave for work but will go home this evening and put up some signs around the neighborhood. If no one claims him, i'll have to take him to the ASPCA (can't keep another dog in my apartment). Would love to cause he's adorable! :cry:

    Good luck...but at least the ASPCA is now a no-kill shelter (unless an animal is unadoptable because of behavior reasons).
    You've got a good heart bring the little one into your home.

    There are flyers for a missing dog on Underhill. Does this do have any white coloring on its face? If so I can post the info from the flyer here when I get home.

    That was so wonderful of you to take in that puppy. And Pitbulls can be such loving and fun dogs when they're raised with love and training.

    Weeks ago I saw a man with a bunch of pitbullish puppies outside of Citibank on 7th Avenue. It looked odd, as if he was trying to quietly give them away.

    He was selling them. I didn't see him but someone told me about it after he was gone. I guess some people just need to pimp something out, they don't want to make money the old fashioned way so they make it off a female. I believe backyard breeders are no better than pimps and should be treated like the pieces of shit that they are.

    Sorry about that, I sure hope someone adopts that puppy soon. I doubt he's being missed since it doesn't seem like anyone's looking for him.

    i dislike the backyard breeders too, i got approach in the park a few times. to buy puppies. cause i see cute little puppies and they ask me if i wanted to buy them :/.

    Please excuse my ignorance, but why are backyard breeders bad?

    Do you think the "lost" puppy is a backyard breeder's surplus?

    I'm pretty tired right now so I doubt I'd be able to explain it properly. But I found some websites that give a good explanation.

    These people don't really care about the animals, they're just looking to make easy money. There's no vet care, no temperament testing, they just let the dogs breed and sell the puppies. I can't tell you how many times people have asked me if my pitbull Ripley is fixed. On the street, when she's wearing her basket muzzle. They don't know she wears it because she eats food off the ground, they don't care. She could be dog or people aggressive but it doesn't matter because they like the way she looks. She's built like a tank, 65lbs of muscle but she thinks she can fit on my lap. All my pets are rescues, it makes me crazy that people are adding to the number of animals being put to sleep. Hope this makes sense.

    Subject: Update

    Thank you all for your advice and support. When i found the puppy, he was completely wet and shivering (he somehow survived through a night of rain) and extremely disoriented. But after i took him home, cleaned him and gave him some food, he was in good spirits and played a lot with my dog....and slept a lot. I really wanted to keep him but I have an extra large dog and i just don't have the space for another dog (he's a pit mix so i assume he's going to grow up to be a medium size dog).

    Anyway, i asked around/posted flyers etc. and no one seemed to be missing any dogs, so from what i can tell, he's was probably abandoned by a backyard breeder. It's extremely sad and frustrating! If you only you saw how scared this poor little guy was when i found him. Here's the good news - a co-worker decided to adopt the brave little guy. Though it's only been a few days, he's adjusted really well and has really taken to his new Mommy.

    Again, thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

    parkslopeboy, that is wonderful! That puppy is so lucky you found him and took care of him. I don't want to think what would have happened to him if he was out there alone much longer. What an amazing thing you did, hats off to you!

    (And boy do I need a new bank -- that Citibank on 7th Ave. is the worse. If it's not pimps popping puppies, it's an obese prostitute offering more unwanted things I shiver to think about...just to get to the atm, I must tip a homeless man who's fatter than me...backyard bred dogs sold there...am I surprised?)

    Unfortunately, it's not against the law to indiscriminately breed and sell the puppies on the street. I wish there was a way to require mandatory spaying/neutering for all pets. Breeders should have to have a license and anyone without a license caught with an intact animal should be fined and the animal fixed. But that would require more money and manpower than the government has or would devote to.

    Maybe you can post an ad to see if anyone wants to adopt the puppy if you can't keep it for long? My friends adopt out kittens they found that way. Of course you will have to do some homework and interview to make sure the family that adopts the animal is sincere...

    Many pet owners have the wrong ideas about neutering. I don't know how many times I was asked if my cats are neutered, and when I said "yes", they asked me why. Unfortunately there are still too many people who are ignorant of the beneficial facts of neutering.

    I am curious, is the homeless man in Citibank still there? I noticed they have added a guard there now, and I don't see the homeless man there any more. I agree it is very annoying to have him there, although lots of people seem to like him...

    I don't know if this helps, but I saw a flyer for a missing dog on a pole right in front of Windsor Cafe. I wasn't able to stop and read the descriptions.
