Delicious- New Kosher Deli/ Mediterranean Place??????
Walked on President Street between 4th and 5th yesterday, and saw a new place called Delicious?
It said Kosher Deli/Mediterranean.
My husband and I looked inside, and it was still not open, but the owner came out and said they would open next week.
I hope it truly is DELICIOUS. Would be great to have an authentic Med/Deli around here.
Anyone know anything about this spot yet?

Hey, nubnu, thanks for pointing out the exact location. Cross streets are helpful. I'll have to walk by and check it out.

I'm excited about Easter being over. Now we can be mean spirited again! -
I really hope they deliver to Prospect Heights! If it's good, I would definitely order in some pastrami as least a couple of times a month!
-
They had the Grand Opening on Saturday. Did not go, but I walked by this morning and they were selling coffee and muffins.
-
If anyone here picks up a menu, would you mind scanning it and posting it here?

I've always had a hard time with that expression. It makes it seem so dirty. -
I stopped by yesterday for a look. It was sort of an odd menu (lots of different things going on) but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Unfortunately it was a little more expensive than I would've hoped. $12 greek salad, $11 sandwiches... why do they need to charge so much? Seems misguided to me.
And the atmosphere really doesn't fit with those kind of prices. It feels like a cafeteria in there.
I fear Delicious may not last long. Maybe they'll prove me wrong... -

part of the higher prices you report is because it is kosher.. kosher products cost more.. especially meat.. if that is being offered.

kosher style, not kosher. some of the meats may be kosher, but they are still serving milk shakes and are not inspected by a rabbi in order to be compliant with kosher laws. -

Thanks for clarifying it is not a kosher restaurant. -

Jeeze...it looks more like a $4 sandwich take-out stable. What does an $11 sandwich come with...wild Alaskan salmon?
$12 salad? Come on! That better be one fresh, tasty salad. -
Has anyone actually EATEN any of the food? If the food is good I won't care so much about it being expensive. I'll just eat there less often.

I haven't yet, but I think I will. But it won't be the $12 greek salad, I'll tell you that...
I don't know, something about the place turns me off. Last night they had three plates of their food, covered in saran wrap, out on a table on the sidewalk. I get that they're trying to "present" their options or something, but it was weird, and for some reason, a little gross.
It makes me a sad, because I can tell they really want to succeed. It just all seems a sort of misguided. -
I ate there yesterday. My husband's grandmother makes better matzo ball soup for sure. I had that with half a turkey sandwich which was ok. They give you a lot of little appetizers like falafel and a chickpea salad type of thing and the food came with pickles and coleslaw. The food was alright - plenty of it which is probably why it costs a bit more.

Quigley - you seem a bit obsessed with the $12 greek salad. Sure - that is out of hand if it is a tiny side salad, but if it is big enough for a meal with lots of good greek olives, feta, tomatoes, etc - I don't think that is so crazy outlandish. That is why I was wondering if anyone actually ate the food. -

Compared to the price of a huge, fresh, authentic Greek salad at any place in Astoria, $12 sounds nuts. -
it's probably worth $12 if there's fresh Greek in the salad, but not for frozen.

Huh? You want fresh Greek in the salad?
I realize I sound obsessed with the Greek salad. I was more using it as an example - I'm not specficially bothered only by that. I've ordered $12 - $15 salads at nice restaurants. My point is this place is not a nice restaurant. It's a step up from a deli. The prices seem steep, especially for the atmosphere... that's all. -

I figured it out and GROSS is the word. I walked there today -- I walked down on President Street. As I was passing residential buildings, I noticed all of the garbage cans out, stuffed with trash. When I got to Delicious -- a sudden recess in the endless line of garbage cans -- muffins were placed out on a table at the same height as all of the other garbage cans. The two buildings that are on the sides of Delicious have their trash cans out. It's like the muffins were surrounded by garbage cans. It was GROSS. -
Raw.. you just convinced me never to try this place!!
ech!! -
This place does need to work on its presentation. The owner standing outside smoking a cigarette trying to sell coffee and muffins wrapped in saran wrap is not doing it for me.

my wife and i went there tonight. my wife was very excited to go since she lived in israel for 6 years and the menu is full of israeli dishes.
ill skip all the decor and other nonsense talk, since the food is the most important thing anyway.
they first put out fallafel balls, chickpea/garlic salad, and israeli pickles and olives. good stuff!
we both had matzo ball soup. there is definitely a little something different in the soup. we couldn't put our fingers on it, but there is an extra spice in the broth. i found it pretty good. i thought the matzo balls (they give you 2) were pretty good as well. my wife was a little underwhelmed.
i then had a pastrami on rye and my wife had seasoned grilled chicken. i must admit, i was disappointed with the pastrami sandwich. the pastrami was thick cut and thown on a grill to heat it up. i like my pastrami cut thin and coming out of a steamer to make it nice and tender. my wife's chicken was pretty good. it was cooked in israeli spices (cumin) and came with rice that was a bit oily, but overall pretty good.
no dessert, but i had an egg cream and it hit the spot. my wife had a Lemon-Nana (a lot of people in the place were drinking this) and it was delicious. this is definitely a summer drink. it was fresh mint, lemonade, and crushed ice.
overall, i didn't walk out of there WOWed, but we will go back, especially for brunch. their brunc menu looks amazing!! if you have never had israeli brunch food, try it, it's worth it.
Howdy, Stranger!
