a/c advice

I think its very expense to get refilled. Its probably cheaper to buy a new one (we got a Whirlpool a/c at Lowes for 79.00). Good luck.

I bet you could buy a used one pretty cheaply...people who don't want to store theirs for the winter or are moving or whatever.
-
You can always try craigslist too. But PC Richards, Lowes etc. I am sure has inexpensive AC units during the off season. Freon is not cheap and confusing, at least for the likes of me.

i was just trying to be the most environmental as possible, meaning like... it seemed like a better idea to refill the darned thing than to throw it out on the curb and replace it, you know? the lesser of 2 evils?

What'd I tell you about inhaling that freon. You're only hurting yourself. When I get to Freddy's tonight, you better have my money! 8) -
..maybe the neighbors in the airshaft sniffed my freon!! daveb you're suspect, especially b/c you might live one door down from me.

If you do throw it out on the curb, you may want to keep in mind that, by law, you cannot just put your a/c out on the curb, though many people do. You are actually supposed to make an appt. to have it picked up -- basically, you leave it out there at an appointed time, and then the EPA or somebody comes to pick it up. -

I know nothing about whether or not you should by freon or a new A/C. But all my A/C issues I've directed to J&R Electronics on 7th Av roughly somewhere between Garfield & Union... I forget which block (no relation to the big J&R). They repair/ install A/Cs, so it's worth giving them a call.
They've installed my A/Cs & also fixed my stereo amp.
