Subject: The S 'train-Shuttle'?

What is this line? Do people use it at all? How long has it been in use. Thanks.

    Its a shuttle that connects the 8th Avenue line (A,C) to the Broadway (2,3) and Lexington (4,5) lines and the 6th Ave (B) and 7th Avenue (Q) lines. Another way to say it is that you can ride North-South from Bed-Stuy to Prospect Park and back.

    Yes, people use it. In fact folks that use it tend to wax poetic about it now although for years it was a pretty sad train line.

    Its been around forever.

    love dear, that's the times square shuttle.

    the franklin shuttle is one of the oldest lines in the subway system and the site of the worst accident in NYC subway history. it runs every ten minutes in each direction (every 20 late nights) and stops across the street from my house. most of the drivers are the sort who will hold the doors if they see you running. from my roof at night, it looks like a happy glowing caterpillar, of the sort miyazaki would draw.

    in short, it rocks.

    Actually, Tea, he' right, just had a weird way of putting it.
    The S train in Brooklyn does connect the A,C to the 2,3,4,5, on down to the D down by the park. It's an interborough train, so no one really uses it to get from one end of Brooklyn to another, but they use it to connect to these other trains.

    Tea, please tell us about this accident??? I'm so curious!

    i meant that the video DH posted is of the times square shuttle.

    Thanks for your responses. Does anyone really take this shuttle? Are they always busy with people? How big is it. Just one wagon?

    Much bigger! TWO cars! :)

    I take it home from work every day (in the morning I'm sleepy and lazy and take a bus over to the train on Flatbush). Wouldn't want to use it really late at night but I'm pretty cautious. During regular commuting hours it's pretty well filled.

    I usually take it to/from the 4/5, but it's also a good way to get to the Q, which zips you into Manhattan or further out into the Brooklyn hinterlands pretty fast.

    I've taken it in the middle of the night. Quiet, a little spooky, but people seem to be mostly coming home from a night out. I've even met a few folks at that hour!

    :) Just interested to know. I saw the line 'S' while I was visiting a friend in the area, so I ask her about it but she did not know anything.

    I take it frequently from the A stop to Park Place, a few blocks from me! At all hours of the night, too! It's been a real godsend at times when I'm totally beat and not willing to walk that extra bit. There are always a few people on it, even in the strangest hours of the night and I've never had a problem.

    Actually! I always take it late night, in which case it's always the A (but, yes, at a C stop!)
