Beer Table

Anyone been? What do you think of the place? It seems very small to me. I don't see how more than 15-20 people could fit in there, which makes it a somewhat unappealing destination.

any thoughts?

  • It got a really nice review from Peter Meehan in the Times yesterday.
  • thanks, i just read the review. I never doubted that the beer and food was good. My thing is that if it's 1130 or so on a weekend, I would probably not stop in because it just seems too crowded.
  • Sounds like the old line from that great 20th Century sage from St. Louis via the South Bronx, L.P. Berra:
"Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded"
  • Where is it?
  • 7th Ave and 15 St.
  • has it really been crowded? I only pass it during the day, so didn't know if they were doing well.
  • They seem to be doing just fine when i walk past with the pooches in the evenings. and the owners are reeeeaaaaaly nice, which is a big plus!

OMG! Look at the new pic ;-)
  • I also thought it would be too cramped in there-but hit it at the right time and you'll be glad you did. It was like exploring another country! And yes, the owners are great!
  • Beer Table is great, we've been going there since last spring! They have a fantastic selections of beer, and the owners are very personal. They spend time with you, get to know your preferences and recommend beers. It's a family-owned place, where a husband, his wife and his sister all quit their jobs to get this place going.

Wait a second... Why am I telling you all this? It's crowded as is. Don't go to beer table!!!
  • I love this place. And yes, the owners are great. The pickles are all done by the wife - I wish I could remember her name. They experiment with lots of stuff and they are very personable.
  • Beer Table is great, but you can easily drop a bundle of cash on a few pints of specialty brew. Lord knows I have. I recommend not bringing a credit card to avoid drunkenly charging yourself into oblivion. Real nice owners though, I wish them well.
  • Too expensive for me unfortunately. The wife saw the prices and after one drink we left.
  • Beer Table got a write up on MSNBC.com, courtesy of Budget Travel.

So did Barcade and Spuyten Duyvil , but they aren't really in the neighborhood so you can pretend to ignore those.

  • Love it but you drop some serious coin.

    The beer cheese is rockin'.
  • Lovely if you hit it when it's not crowded. Serious beer at serious prices--but absolutely charming in every single way.
  • Beer Table is AMAZING. I am not a beer drinker and I love it - that is how good it is.

The owners can recommend beers for you based on wines you like, flavors you like or things you don't like. They let you try the tap beers so you can avoid making a costly mistake.

Maybe I have been in the tri-state area for too long (born and raised) but I actually don't find it TOO expensive. While yes, you can drop serious dollars there, you can also keep it pretty inexpensive. They usually have a few $6-$8 options...

Where is everyone else going that $6-$8 is considered expensive? I acutally want to know because that seems normal to me...sigh, jaded new yorker, stands unflinching when the bartender charges her $12 for a martini that had half spilled on the bar...
  • nice place. saw john hodges there the other day
