GHENET crooklyn
Ghenet Brooklyn
With African cuisines and Brooklyn both gaining prominence in the culinary scene of late, it comes as no surprise that an old standard like NoLita's cozy Ethiopian Ghenet would look to capitalize on the trend. And so after 10 years of serving up its traditional injera bread on Mulberry Street, the restaurant is readying to debut its second location, this time in Park Slope. The new space, at 348 Douglass St. between 4th and 5th Avenues, should open by April 15th (718-230-4476).

hmmm... maybe this calls for a crooklynian field trip  -
When I first heard about this, it made my week. Can't wait to try it out.

I walked by last night -- 4th Ave and Douglass -- and they look ready to go. The paper was off the windows, the dining room was in place.
Verrrrry exciting, since some of us know from their Manhattan joint that they know how to run a restaurant with great food.
Less bumpy start up, more delicious spicy dinner!

hurrah!

Soft opening was tonight, with appetizers & drinks only. Regular opening is the middle of next week. I'm excited too; looks nice inside. Menu seems smaller than Manhattan loc., but main attractions are covered.

Huzzah! I hope they deliver to PH.

I don't think they're doing delivery, C (I asked for you. Take-out, yes, they plan to. But I wonder if that spongy bread travels well...)
So, a mini-report. We went after BAM this weekend (Sizwe Banzi Is Dead, brilliant)
The room is gorgeous. Subdued, lovely, simple. I'd love to rent it for a small party.
The mushrooms in berbere sauce was delicious. There's a ton of vegetarian/vegan options.
They are leaning light on the fire.
I know Ethiopian to be super spicy - they are def. easing up for the American audience. It was well-balanced and pleasant, but since there's some non-spicy options on the menu I wish they'd lean hard on the heat for things meant to be hot. And I learned that if you drink beer, the carbonation lights up the spice on your palette. Who knew?
I am sooooo glad they opened here!
Howdy, Stranger!
