NYC Marathon watching

How is the marathon watching in Park Slope on 4th Ave? I've normally gone to the Upper East Side bars/restaurants to hang out for marathon watching. How is it in the Slope?

  • it's fun. we call it the 'math of humanity.'
thousands of people run by and you yell at them
then you go home and watch the finish on tv.

i think there's many longstanding brunch parties built around this activity

Good place to watch, 4th Ave side of Byrne Park (betw 3rd & 4th Sts)
then can brunch at restaurants nearby ... as 4th Avenue is a gastronomic wasteland. There's a water station for the runners at that location. It's approx. the 7 mile mark.
Always fun to watch the wheelchair guys come first, then the elite runners ... then it seems like you're waiting eternally for the rest of the pack. Since I live nearby always time it from when I see and hear the TV helicopters to run down and see the elites.
Another good view is at the top of the Slope - Atlantic Ave & 4th Ave intersection. And if you're up there follow the runners into Fort Greene after they pass BAM. Lafayette Avenue is a cool location. Narrow street.
If you're really adventurous follow them up through Billburg on Bedford Avenue, then to Greenpoint on Manhattan Avenue before they head over to Queens.
  • 9th Street and 4th Ave near the elevated subway station is a great spot to watch because the Fire Dept usually has a truck and a cheering section right there. Makes for a lively crowd.
