I'm sure I am about to jinx myself but it's so slow here today that I could pull a George Costanza and take a nap under my desk. It's moments like these that I wouldn't mind a chatroom. If anybody has AIM access during the day, we could start a dailyheights chat and be totally unproductive together. :?

oh my, I *so* have the desk for this. one time I actually crawled under and laid down to see if would work but clearly there's not much vacuuming going on under there because I came up looking like a dust bunny.

All IM clients are blocked at my office. About the only thing here I can log on to is the AIM web client which sucks. I use all the IM services at home though (notice all the links riding the bottom of my post. Candice and I are IM buddies. I rule. 8)

They just started blocking AIM at my job this week. And they'll probably take the MSN next and leave me with just the stinking Yahoo because we need that for work! It's been a very sad week.

Try aim express, I find i can still get on since they're blocking the program but not the port or protocol.
  • At home, I use GAIM which is an open source app that lets you connect to msn, yahoo, irc, icq, jabber and a few others, all in one program. It rules. I'm on Linux at home 8) , but I believe there's a windoze version available as well. Trillian is another multi-protocol client for windoze. It's commercial, but they have a free version.
Lastly, for MAC, there's an open source program, very similar to GAIM called Fire that works quite well.

I use Adium sometimes at home but most of the people I want to chat with are on AIM.
  • I use Trillian at work, even though it's not doing me any good at the moment. I think they blocked the AIM port. Those crafty IT folks!
  • Notice I split this to it's own topic. Another thing to do if fill out your IM info in your profile, much like mine.

    I'm afraid of IM spam.

Ok then, the second half of that sentence is I'm a semi-anti-social-IM-bitch and only let people on my buddy list see me.
  • i use icb (http://www.icb.net/) through a shell. at worst, you can tunnel through firewalls. its impossible to block.

however, its not very user-friendly, and of course, none of you are on it. at least that i know of.

I actually do this regularly. On my lunch break of course.

My assistant/houseboy is currently face-down and passed out on his desk with the drool faucet on a light drip.

Your reference is lost on me. I had to Google it and now that I know this is a song by "Get Up Kids" I still don't get it. Please to esplain it to me.

Hey buddy, relax, don't get your knickers in a bunch. I get it now, I recall the perve-meister, it's all coming back to me.

My assistant/houseboy, God bless his little heart, is a lazy little bastard. Then again, so am I. Together, we form like Voltron.

Good call- I'm able to log on to msn messenger from work now, but I can't seem to add any buddies... I think that it's tryin' to reference the buddy request to the msn directory, which IT has blocked... any ideas on how to get around this? Or am I stuck having to remember user addresses?! :?

Well if they blocked it, it's probably more trouble than it's worth to get around, might as well strart wrinting down names.
