If only if only I didn't see all those garbage cans so close to the food....

It doesn't sound like it was next to food that they were actually serving...

    Thanks for the review mnyc!

Can someone post a menu already? I want to order from there and try it out but don't feel like walking over.

Delicious' muffins were displayed outside, wrapped in plastic, and were not touching garbage cans. The muffins were on a small table out side of Delicious. The table was garbage can height; the table was as tall as trash cans. Buildings on both sides of Delicious had garbage cans out front. Delicious had a thin wall behind its muffin table that might be an attempt to hid neighbors' garbage cans. It did not look good. It is not Delicious' fault that its neighbors put garbage cans out. Delicious is in a narrow building sandwiched by buildings with trash cans in front. Not a great place for out door dinning visuals. The subtraction of garbage and addition of trees would help.

No, we can't, because they don't have take out menus yet. I've checked. Just their in-store menus, so I think you're going to have to walk over if you want to see what they have.

not true. there are take away paper menus. at least there were last Friday night. and like the regular menu - full of spelling mistakes (i.e. stake instead of steak, meet instead of meat).

Oh, good to know! I stand corrected.

Although, that's hysterical. Now I'm definitely grabbing one to scan in. I never understand when that happens -- why not have someone proof it for you?

Not having menus available when customers want them and displaying muffins near garbage are consistent with poor marketing. This restaurant needs to present itself in an appealing, accessible light to get us all to eat those $12 salads.

Yeah, I noticed that earlier this week and it wasn't appealing. They are definitely trying to capitalize on the commuter crowd on President (with good reason) in the morning, but the thermoses full of coffee and plastic-wrapped muffins sort of seemed to me to be a weak attempt at a lemonade stand.

I hope they succeed though. Maybe I'll pick up a pastrami sandwich to go on my way up the hill tonight.
  • I ate there on a Saturday afternoon...
Atmosphere is awful and the sidewalk pandering is kind of silly. They obviously want to succeed but their approach and marketing is terrible. They need an outside consultant or voice of reason. They do have a unique cuisine offering but I think they are shooting themselves in the foot. Really nice guys it would be a shame if they didn't last very long but the way things are I don't see how they can survive. I had a Pastrami sandwich, not what I was hoping for and not the traditional NY deli style. The 3 slices of bread was kind of weird but not a big deal. The pastrami itself was cut very thick and very very fatty and needed to be trimmed a bit. I hope they start picking up some good advice and improve what could be a good niche restaraunt.
  • I HAVE CHANGED MY VIEWS.

Going by presentation alone can be deadly. Some of the most attractive restaurants have the most health violations. I could be eating CLEAN, safe muffins from Delicious or I could be eating spoiled diary products from a nicer looking restaurant, like Blue Ribbon Brasserie:

    http://167.153.150.32/RI/web/detail.do?method=detail&restaurantId=40829674&inspectionDate=20070411
  • Let's think on this. Blue Ribbon with its 27 points still passed the inspection and the violations (which were minor) were corrected in the short time frame given so what is the problem?

And what is the comparison between a restaurant that gives so much detail to its food, its presentation and every little thing that could make a pleasant dining experience and a newly opened "grab a meal" place that is being run by owners who think it is just fine to display their muffin wares outside the storefront a mere afew feet from a garbage can ?

Hand down... you will find me at Blue Ribbon with my Bowl of Matzoh Ball soup! (Which is an excellent choice at BR.)
  • Delicious' menu is intriguing, with lots of tasty-sounding stuff, but the high prices are keeping me away. Press 195 offers superb sandwiches for a couple of bucks less, and they're just a few blocks away. If Delicious wants to succeed, they should drop their prices a bit.
  • This place said it was closed last weekend for Passover, but then never reopened again. It's been totally dark in there everyday. Anyone have any details on this? A restaurant can't fold THAT quickly, can it??
  • The sign in the window said they would be closed Monday and Tuesday for Passover, but did not re-open on Wednesday. Passover actually ends at sundown on Sunday, so lets see if it re-opens for Monday breakfast. If not - this place is probably toast (or Matzoh as it were).
  • Passover lasts 8 days. No way will they be open till the holiday is over. Though the food is not all "kosher" perhaps the the owners are observant enough not to sell bread products during the holiday.
    I am only guessing.

Exactly - so it was weird tht the sign said that they would only be closed Monday and Tuesday. We'll see.

I haven't yet, but I think I will. But it won't be the $12 greek salad, I'll tell you that....

Quigley - you seem a bit obsessed with the $12 greek salad. Sure - that is out of hand if it is a tiny side salad, but if it is big enough for a meal with lots of good greek olives, feta, tomatoes, etc - I don't think that is so crazy outlandish. That is why I was wondering if anyone actually ate the food.
Compared to the price of a huge, fresh, authentic Greek salad at any place in Astoria, $12 sounds nuts.
