Thai Tony- new south slope thai place...
Nick (7th ave bt 15-16) closed and low and behold a new thai place opened in the same location. I'm excited because Nick was next door to my apt and was open till 11, this place seems the same. I'm going to try it out for lunch today and will provide a full report.
Additionally, the japanese place going into the new Laila (sp) spot seems close to opening, although the people at Grab don't know when it's officially opening its doors. They've been working like crazy on it and it looks pretty ace from the outside, so we'll see. From what I can tell the people working on it are actually Japanese (as opposed to a lot of japanese places in the city/bk which are actually owned by koreans, in my experience.) Lets hope its not another sushi joint, but actually japanese food.

I'm not surprised that Nick closed. They had very odd hours and were never open when I wanted Thai food. They also did not deliver, so I hope that this new place (same owners? new owners?) does a little better.

^New owners, says the person I spoke to when they were doing some painting a few weeks ago. Its really kind of cute on the inside, nicer than Nick.
I liked Nick bc it was open late, although they cut their hours because biz was bad (they used to have lunch then stopped, then started opening later, then being closed weird days...) -
I really did not like Nick personally... it was not good thai. I'm also very excited to give this new place a try tonight! PLEASE good Phai Thai.

Hmmm, Thai Tony did have a place on Ft. Hamilton Parkway which was an odd location. I haven't been there in a while and I wonder if they just up and moved?

Yeah, that was the problem. I used to like to run over there on weekends, and I don't think that he had his hours posted! He could have done better if he had delivered!

HEY, they STILL have a location on Ft. Hamilton Parkway and we are happy to have them here! We are looking forward to another restaurant opening down here that we can support ENOUGH that they are able to open a second restaurant! -

It was in the space that used to house the Brawta Outpost. Would have much preferred to still have Brawta instead of more generic mediocre Thai food. :-/ -
Not to hijack this post, but does anyone know what "Brawta" means?
The place is good, but it has pretty slow service, unfortunately. -

ok late update-
I did eat there Fri, the food was ok. I'm a pad thai freak, and it was not the worst I've had but not the best (a bit greasy) I'd say for pad thai it was about on point with Watana, which I'm not super thrilled with for that dish either. I'm planning on trying to massaman curry sometime this week, which I LOVE from Watana so I can make a better comparison.
To Tonys credit, the lunch special is reasonably priced ($6 for the main dish and a spring roll, another $1 for salad or soup) and the girl working the counter was super nice and gave me a free drink of either ginger iced tea or thai iced tea (I had ginger and it was really good.) The inside is cuter than Nick. I hope they do OK, it's nice having something that close to my apartment -

We had pad thai from Thai Tony tonight and it was quite good. Can't beat it for a 10-minute-to-prepare take out order. Plus, the counter guy was super nice. We'll go back now that we live in the neighborhood.

I'm not thrilled with Thai Taste's bland, small portions or Long Tan's deep fried menu or Lemongrass Grill's service.

I eat the tofu pad se ew regularly and it's the best I've had in the neighborhood.
