Best Wine and Cheese?

I'm getting hungry (and have a d-a-t-e), so please hit me up with your best wine and cheese place in/near PS.

(after a bad experience at Total Wine Bar, I've crossed that off my list)

Oh, and yes, I could do my own due diligence, but things change

  • Actually, I'm a huge fan of Total Wine Bar. I would suggest trying it again, and even explain your bad experience to whomever is behind the bar.

Sometimes candor goes a long way, if done with a soft hand.
  • You MUST go to Jake Walk...it's over in CG, but is the best model for a wine bar ever in my mind. The cheese is crazy.

(And thanks to whomever it was in another discussion that reminded me of it!)
  • I actually complained (nicely) at the time it happened at TWB, and they still handled it very, very poorly. I may eventually try it again, but only if it's convenient or somebody else picks it - I wouldn't go out of my way to give business to a place that doesn't make an effort to fix their mistake.

I definitely want to try Jake Walk. That might be the winner.

Isn't there a new-ish place on 5th near 18th or so? What is that called?
  • Just got back from The Jake Walk...was good. Good food, good service. Pretty extensive cheese menu- but the next thing you know we spent $160 on wine, cheese and meat plates. Ah, well. Friendly staff, decent selection, etc etc I'll be back
  • Thank you, Flexi--Got that written down.

Don't try to worry about money. Had it been half that much and it sucked, that's the time to worry.

Just curious. How many people were the "we" with that bill?

Vin Rouge. went there in september. it was nice. lovely outdoor patio, and now that the weather is warming up it will be lovely again :)

as i recall the plates were nothing on the WOW factor, but ample and tasty. the wine list was good and reasonable.

seeing as how it's 7 months later, i have no idea how it is now.

    two :-(

although the prices are fair, it's easy to eat a lot

Seriously! I think Carmen stood me up
  • Flexichick.. I understand about how it would be possible and probable to eat a lot in that sitation. The wine was pleasing, thefood was good and served small so you just keep ordering. Sounds like my kind of place!!
  • cheeses are $4 each, which is very reasonable. We had 7-8. Meats are generally $8, and we had a few of those...Jamon Iberico (yum) is $12. Cornichons and other things to pick at (olives, almonds) are $2. I think the wine is what killed us....we had 3 glasses of a $12 wine each

So Flex would it have been better to order the wine by the bottle?
But, of course if each of those $12 glasses was a diiferent wine I understand why to do it that way because of the different tastes.
  • Don't they have Wine Flights available?

You know, the journey was the entertainment.

    Sounds like you had fun!
  • LOL Swandive! I totally forgot about that- lets make it happen! I'm in NC until Tuesday but after that I'm open!
  • We definitely would have been better off buying a bottle. I'm not sure if they do flights - I didn't notice any, but that doesn't mean I just didn't see them.

Carmen, I'm traveling this week too. Ping me when you get back

yeah yeah we get it good food, good wine but the most important question is:
    How was the date? ;):D
  • We had a nice evening last summer at Donna da Vine on Atlantic- lovely back garden, tasty food, good wine (I think they have flights). Not cheap either, but I think the two of us got out of there for around $80.
