Re-OPENED Flatbush Food Cooperative
For those in the Cortelyou Rd neighborhood you may have notice that the long awaited move across the street has been made by the Flatbush Food Cooperative. IMHO they have got to be one of the cleanest stores I've seen in Brooklyn, with an excellent selection of organic foods, fruits, veg, and meat.
I live in the neighborhood and have seen a couple of nice stores open, one just a couple of blocks away, but this one is great. Spotlessly clean (it should be, its newly opened) with a great selection and a good amount of space.
Check it out!

I'm so excited about the new Coop location! THe store is beautiful inside. But I went on Friday, the day after they opened, and they seemed a little understocked. Maybe I was just imagining it though. Anyway, I am SO glad they moved to this nicer, larger location. The place across the street was a dump, and so hard to walk down the aisles (so much congestion, narrow aisles). Good luck to the new location!

YEAH! IT'S CLEAN!
But it also charges $19 for a small chicken!
$2 for a cucumber!
YEAH!
I will agree, the smaller one did suck.
I was hoping this would be somewhat organic and somewhat non-organic but I doubt many people in the hood will be paying $19 for a small chicken. -

I believe they are getting ready to compete with Whole Foods, once they come into Brooklyn. A friend of mine who had never been to Whole Foods before, and lives upstate in Buffalo, after he went to the one at Union Sq. commented, "do they bring in their steaks in an armored truck"?

If you've seen the people coming to Picket Fence and The Farm on Adderly I think you'll agree there will be plenty of people who can afford to shop there. I'd like it cheaper too, but I don't think that'll happen.
