Where can I rent a car?

Enterprise on 3rd ave and 9th is probably your best bet. I rent there alot for work and have never had a problem with them, and their staff is fantastic.

The small non-chain car rental place (I don't know the name) on Union near 7th Ave is good. I think they started doing short term hourlys to keep up with Zipcar, although we've used them for longer haul rentals when we'd be over the mileage limit on Zip.

The rental place on Union is Speedy. The Enterprise mentioned above is probably closest, but another option is the Avis on Atlantic at Brooklyn Bridge Boulevard. I usually make the ride out to the airport if the rental is a for a few days b/c the rates are so much lower. Probably not worth it if you only need it for a few hours or something.

There's 2 places on Union...the other is closer to the Park and I've used that one in the past - car was fine, price was OK. Enterprise was way too expensive!
I tried Speedy but I needed a car for a Sunday (so I had to pick up on aSaturday) and they wouldn't reserve a car for a Saturday...I had to take a chance that they would have one. -
The other advantage of Enterprise it that if you're not super close to them, they'll pick you up at home and drop you off when you return the car. A nice perk.
Of course, you could also join ZipCar. -
i had a good experience this weekend with the avis at atlantic and court.
my problem with the speedy rent-a-car on union and 7th is that it's quite difficult to make a reservation in advance. i wanted a car for sunday, and when i called on wednesday, i was told to call back later in the week to see if there were cars available. i prefer the piece of mind knowing that i've got a reservation and won't be scrambling last minute. and avis' price was very competitive, and i noticed that the car was newer and cleaner than the last two i rented from speedy.
