Men's haircut in the Slope

Subject: Men's haircut in the Slope

Any suggestions? I've been going to Astor Place for years but my regular guy has vanished and I'm wondering if I paid more than $20 for a haircut if I'll actually be able to tell the difference. I don't want to pay more than $50 (with tip).

  • I'd recommend Joseph's on 7th...near Key Foods. About $25 out the door. Professional, simple, friendly, etc...
  • There's a new place on Fifth and Baltic (I think - somewhere around there at least). It replaced the health/natural beauty store on Fifth.
I think they charge $15 for a men's haircut, and the one person I know who got one there was happy with it and his hair looked good.
  • I recommend Enzo at Unisex 2001 in Windsor Terrace (on PPW/Windsor, across from Holy Name). $13, great old school barber.
  • what about some place good that is not a barber shop in ps?

any suggestions? i'm going to need a new place very soon and i haven't had luck with a barber.

nothing super fancy, just not a barber.
  • I've been using the same barber/stylist for many years now. He used to be the "house" barber at Warner Communications, giving daily haircuts to its chairman, Steve Ross, and less frequent haircuts to many other executives.

His name is Joseph Cristiano, his shop is at 138 East 61st Street (b/n Lex and Park), on the 2nd Floor, and the phone is (212) 935-2442. He cuts by appointment only. He charges $55 for a haircut, which I find lasts 3-4 weeks. I usually tip him an additional $5.

Extra bonus: His brother is a superb tailor, and has the shop next door to Joseph's.

Ruska B - if that is a picture of you - I am certainly going to give Enzo a shot. Thanks.
  • Delilah's on 4th near Union is good. I think it's $35 for men and is not a barber.
  • Didn't we just do this?

Anyway, Joseph's on 7th Avenue near Union Street-not a barber, but not a fancy spa style salon either-just a regular unisex salon. I think a haircut for a man is $25 and they do a good job.
  • I've been getting my hair cut at Medusa on 7th Ave and 1st street for 7 years, and they've never done me wrong. Maury and Natalie are particularly good. I highly recommend them. It'll set you back betw. $40 and $50. Well worth it, if you ask me.
