Five Guys burgers coming to 7th Avenue — Brooklynian

Five Guys burgers coming to 7th Avenue

pastoralia
edited November -1 in Park Slope
I was walking past the corner of 7th Ave and 6th street (where that ugly Bank of America is going in) and I saw a work permit on the space next door (the old D'Agostino's) that says a Five Guys is going in. Yea!

Maybe this will be the death-knell for Brooklyn Burger Bar and then something really decent can go into that space while we all eat burgers at Five Guys.

  • yay! The burger bar is just sad, so I'd love to see it die for a better option. And, I've never had a five guys burger, but the buzz sounds great.
  • really? I'd rather have an albaz burger. 5 guys is annoying.
  • Its hard to get excited about a national chain restaurant that is already open in Brooklyn and Manhattan. I love a good burger and fries as much as the next guy, but I would have rather seen a locally owned business open in this spot.
  • tried 5 Guys a couple times. was in a lot of pain afterwards.
another pretender to the california chain in-n-out burger.
too much grease, too slow for new yorkers.
but perfect across the street from methodist hospital.
get a heart attack, then hit the b of a for the needed cash.
  • seriously? I can usually do some damage to a soda or bonnie's burger. but the 5 guys JUNIOR burger defeated me twice. lame. heck, I do better at the burger joint - line and all. sometimes, I long for mcdonalds. burgers make life confusing.
  • I'm not kidding: try the burger at Dram Shop. It's goooood.

I have heard rumour of good burgers in the Dram Shop but the times I have thought to go there we have a kid in tow and I am old fashioned and not Park Slopey enough to take my kid to a bar.

    :thumleft: +1
  • i hope they do better w/ their opening than the one in brooklyn heights. they couldn't get orders straight, slower than slow (it's a burger for cryin' out loud), slippery floors with all the peanut shells being tossed on the ground, and had way too many folks behind the counter at one time. otherwise, great burgers,.
  • Having been a long-time devotee of 5 Guys in the DC area when I lived there I really wish they could bring the same quality up this way. It seems that with these BK locations they're falling short. Bummer. Big bummer. I was SO stoked when I saw the first signs go up in BK Heights. *sigh*
  • Dram Shop, Sidecar and Johnnie Mack's all make good burgers. Don't need some chain store interlopers.
  • re: chain stores

correct me if i'm wrong, but both d'agastino and gothic cabinet are chain stores.
  • A dozen posts in and we're doing well on the required elements:

    1) This place is better somewhere else.
    2) Some other place is better.
    3) Made me sick.
    4) It's a chain. That's bad.

    Not yet:

    5) This place (chain) was good, but now sucks.
    6) It makes no difference to me, I'm a vegetarian/vegan.
    7) Something about Food Co-op ground beef.

    Mine (see below):

8 ) Some other place would be better than that which is going in.

I agree with dw, In-N-Out is awesome - I wish they would get it together and come east. I haven't had a double double animal style in almost 2 years :(

    Nice list, I'll take a #6 with sides of #4 and #8.

it's got no chance of winning without:

    * the wrong people will come here
  • Do they have veggie burgers?

(now Drano's #6 is fullfilled and I was actually curious).
  • It scares me that now I will be able to know how many calories one of those Five Guys burgers has.
  • I'll pop in and say...

"It doesn't matter to me, I'm a vegan".

Unless they have a veggie burger. Maybe.

    Don't forget the classic:

    9. The landlord is a loathesome SOB -- in fact, let me tell you all about my vendetta in mind-numbing detail!

Oh man, everytime I travel out to Cali I start drooling ... knowing exactly how much time there is to the closest In-N-Out Burger at each major airport. Always grab the double-double animal style, well-done fries and a Neapolitan shake ... and don't eat for another 2 days. It's awesome. Clean, courteous, fresh. Not too fast. But you know your burger and your fries are being cooked right there, now. In-N-Out Burger .... mmmmmm ... burger .....
  • Um hello. Sonic anyone?
  • Carmen wrote: Um hello. Sonic anyone?
I see a lot of Sonic advertising, but I've never actually seen a Sonic. Where are they and why do they have such a media spend in this area?
  • I'm have nothing against chain stores except when they add nothing to the neighborhood. There are a dozen other places near this location to get a good burger. Sorry for being cliche, but I had higher expectations than a 5 Guys.....

I dont know if there's one anywhere near here- I'm from NC and we have them down there and other points southward, but I've never seen one anywhere close to here.
Its a drive-up burger joint- you drive into a parking spot and order from your car and they bring it out to you. Superior burgers and awesome milkshakes. Its fastfood for sure, but its way tastier than say a burger king or something. Plus they have tater tots, which immediately makes me love them
  • really? i never remember even hearing of sonic growing up in nc. maybe it's a more recent thing.
  • The first one opened in my town in like...99? I dont know if they existed before then but they're pretty prolific throughout the carolinas i know for sure (just took a road trip last weekend and saw at least 3 or 4 listed in rest areas and they're not really known for that)
  • great, now i'm old.
  • lol i'm old too, its ok.

    Brilliant!!!
May I add: Any chain that you grew up with and miss will be bastardized and turned to crap if moved to NY. Some things will wither if brought into our environment. We have the ability to turn gold to crap.

If you think 24 is old, honey, you're going to be really disappointed when you get into (oh my god) your LATE twenties!!!

Not to mention, the dreaded EARLY thirties!!!

Whoo, is it hot in here??? ](*,)
