IS IT SAFER TO TAKE THE G TRAIN or A TRAIN at NIGHT? — Brooklynian

IS IT SAFER TO TAKE THE G TRAIN or A TRAIN at NIGHT?

Hi, I posted a message last night. I was wondering, there are two subway station close to where I am moving to, Quincy and Nostrand. One is the G train and one is the A and C train. The A and C train is about 10 or 15 min walk. I have to come back from manhattan around 10:40 pm at night, I was wondering which train should I take that is safer for me to walk back home at night? Thanks

  • i find the subway stations to be generally safe, the least amount of walking on the street is prolly your best bet.

And I'd like to note that all of you're "worrying" is leading my to believe that you're not really 100% about moving into the neighborhood- if you're this worried about it, i'd advise maybe taking a second look at your apartment choice.
  • To be honest with you, if the walk is going to make you nervous just catch the B52 bus from downtown which will drop you off on Gates and Nostrand. Gates is a block from Quincy. If you are coming from the other direction (Williamsburg area) catch tbe B44. You can do this until you become more accustomed to the area. Personally, I am not a big G train fan since the stations tend to be deserted (at least years ago the stations were) but that may have changed. You can also catch the B44 at the Nostrand train station on the A but I think it will take you down Bedford which may be just as convenient for you or not, depending on your apartment.
  • Safe for who?

I think it would be safe for me but based on the two threads you've started I don't think it would be safe for you.

    +1
  • Definitely sounds like you should stay outta BedStuy if you're that worried and scared. Beyond occasional gun violence (which is rarely random) crime rates in Bed Stuy are down significantly. I wouldn't want to live in a place where I'm cowering in fear every time I step out of my apartment.
  • Hopefully you’re not feeling as if everyone is coming down on you in this thread, but I kind of agree with the other responses—you should not live in a neighborhood that you do not feel safe in. With that being said… you signed the lease. So I suggest that you take this opportunity to walk in the neighborhood that you are moving to in a few weeks, walk in the day time and walk at night. See what resources are around you. Meet your new neighbors… and that could be sending a PM to the people that responded that they live around you, meeting them one on one, so you have a friendly familiar face.

And for future… before you sign any type of contract/lease/mortgage please do some research. That way before you’re stuck into a situation you’ll know what you are actually getting into.
  • I'm female and live in that area. In general I feel safe riding either of the trains but I always exercise caution. I don't, as a general rule, take any of the trains back to the neighborhood late if I'm traveling alone. If I'm with my boyfriend I will. When we get off the train (either the G or the A) there are plenty of other passengers and it's not like you will be walking the streets alone, especially on a main street like Nostrand. The buses are great, too.

    Hey worrygrl,

Did you eventually move into the neighborhood?
