Looking for apartment for rent

Walk the streets and try the numbers posted on the sides of the larger buildings, you might come up with a deal. I know of spacious one bedrooms that rented recently between Bedford and Franklin, one on Dean and another on Bergen, for 1500. Lefferts Gardens is way under rated. Friend of mine lives on Lefferts between Nostrand and Ocean with yard, great neighbors, places to go and train service. Also, she's a very short walk from the park.

Franklin is west of Bklyn/New York Avenues. I live between Kingston and Albany and it's neighborly.

You will find better deals in the larger stabilized buildings, since they can only raise the rent so much once a previous tenant vacates. But you'll have to do your homework.

Wow--even $1200 seems high to me! Also check CH south of Eastern Parkway, but north of Empire (before you hit PLG), between Franklin and New York. You should be able to find a 1-bedroom at $1100 or less, though it may be in a larger building. And, in my humble opinion, you'll find the neighborhood more mellow and welcoming. Being relatively close to the Q is also also a benefit.

If you must work through a realtor, I would recommend them. They're very professional and will try to make the process as painless as possible.

You're going to have to pony up the broker's fee. I'm sorry, but there is no way to get an apartment in the time scale that you want without doing it. The best you can do is find a reputable broker who won't screw you over.

But you know, a good broker does ultimately save you time and money. For one thing, it'll keep you away from those no-fee apartment list scams, the ones where you pay $100, but all they have on their list is old listings, not the current ones you need.

I can recommend Abba because they made the process pretty painless with their professionalism, thus more than earning their fee. A broker's fee is normally the equivalent of one month's rent. RUN from any broker that tries to charge you more.
